Re: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, Whedon)

I didn't get Tomorrowland and some others were reporting that they didn't either. Seems only Ant-Man is actually "attached". Everything else is up to the theater, but they may get kickbacks from some studios for playing certain trailers in front of certain films.

EDIT: and there's TomOpus to prove that not everybody got Ant-Man either.

I would guess that Disney would want theaters to promote their other features (Tomorrowland, Ant-Man, Star Wars) in front of Avengers, but I guess they can't make them.

I guess if one wants to factor in everything, I saw it in IMAX at an AMC.

That could have something to do with it. I have heard that a 6 minute bit from Tomorrowland is a given in IMAX. So if that's what's "attached" in IMAX, the theater could exclude Ant-Man.

Maybe I'm getting old but I wish there weren't so many trailers. Felt like an hour's worth. 3-4 would be great. Must have had 8.

Also noticed Regal updated their 'roller coaster' intro to where it was a track made of film stock before, now it is digital film (circuitry) in the film track.

I had the Tomorrowland exclusive before my IMAX screening. They really chose a terrible clip that, while it might pique some audience members' interest, showed off none of the actual Tomorrowland from the film and conveyed zero sense of awe.

Re: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, Whedon)

The Tomorrowland trailer I saw (non-IMAX) really made me want to see the movie.

On the flip side, whoever put together the Fantastic Four trailer I saw needs to be fired because that absolutely did not make me want to see the movie.

I also got Ant-Man, San Andreas, the one where Ben Kingsley gets his brain put into Ryan Reynolds' body, and Jurassic World. I think that's it for my showing. No Star Wars.

Edit: Forgot Pixels and Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Well, they didn't exactly have much to work with as the new FF looks like a trainwreck.

I don't get Ant Man either. How can you have a superhero that's so tiny?

No Star Wars

We saw:
Ant-Man
Tomorrowland
Pixels
Fantastic Four
others I can't recall

Watched at Cinemark in 2D.

Trailers I saw:
Batman V Superman
Tomorrowland
Terminator
Pixels
Fantastic Four
Ant-Man

Would have liked Star Wars, but no such luck. Would have made that 20 minutes of trailers worth while.

The trailer was cool. The extended IMAX exclusive preview was a bit of a bore.

Why is there no separate thread for trailers shown with AVENGERS? I mean, it's not like there are enough AVENGERS threads already.

Not only that but everyone in my theater seemed to be more irritated by the length of it and just wanted it over with. Get on with the movie we paid to see.

The weird part was we had to wear our 3D glasses for several trailers, then were told to remove them for the Tomorrowland preview and then told to put them back on for the movie. I wondered why they didn't reverse that???

There's been a lot of backlash for how Black Widow was portrayed in this film.

I've been a bit confused by that. Most of the language that I've read seems to take it as, "if you can't have kids, you're a monster" which makes no sense. I saw her as saying that she was trained as an assassin, and she wasn't even able to mitigate the "red in her ledger" by bringing life into the world. It's an extension of her time with Loki in Avengers 1.

Although I've read some Marvel here and there as an adult, I read a lot more as a kid--and Black Widow was after my time. I still have a bit of a problem with her in The Avengers, just in the sense that you've got Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America with these incredible powers, and Black Widow........shoots guns and knows karate. It doesn't ruin the movies for me, but I'd prefer someone with greater powers in there. Applies to Hawkeye too, I guess.

47. Older than the hills. Most of my reading as a kid was up to '80 or so. I don't think I read anything new between then and 2006. When did Black Widow appear?

Edit: Oh, I just read that Stan Lee created her in 1964. Okay, that's not after my time. I guess I just didn't read anything with her when I was a kid.

The only thing I can say to that is that she brings something the other Avengers can't (no, not THAT ). She is a super spy, and does very well when a stealthy situation arises. It's not like Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, or Cap to a lesser extent are very subtle.

Most of the critiques I've seen is that for all the references to the red in her ledger, her crisis isn't that she used to be a bloodthirsty assassin, her crisis is that she can't be a mom.
