Hmm.. John McLane and Deke DaSilva working together?

Switch in character? You know there is about a 25 year gap between the first and fourth films right? People change.

I love the first. The rest are more or less garbage (the last one was a total joke, a fucking PG-13 cartoon), but having Stallone direct an R-rated gritty character piece fascinates me. Keep it raw, and bring back Al Powell, Argyle, and Dick Thornberg.

I think all three of the sequels are varying degrees of okay. The second one is flawed because it's a blatant rehash of the original. The third one comes the closest to being the equal of the original, but then the ending isn't up to par. The fourth one is fun, but it definitely pales in comparison, although I thought Bruce's performance went a long way.

lol.

Anyway, I'm in.

Sorry Kory ... you just failed your Hollywood 101 course ... of course the correct answer would be "5 Hard."

The first film is technically the best, and really the only one worth nothing on a technical level at all!

The third film I liked when I saw it theatrically as a kid -- but, I don't think I've seen it more than once since!

The second film I really didn't like much at all! Even when I originally saw it!

The fourth film isn't even in the same series by this point!

----------------------------------------

I'd probably see a Die Hard 5, but I'd prefer it return to the R rating as well. I'd like something a little more serious and less half-baked this time around.

The 1st one is a guilty pleasure.

The 2nd one was bad because it was just using a template of the first.

The 3rd one was enjoyable enough. I especially liked that his involvement with the bad guys wasn't just another coincidence.

The 4th one had it's moments, but the inclusion of Kevin Smith was useless and the baddie was lifeless. And of course it went back to McLane getting involved via coincidence again - ugh.

If they do a 5th one, I hope it involves an operation that McLane is chosen to be in or something and not another "oh, I've stumbled onto these bad guys while getting a coffee at Starbucks". And if he's not going to do this solo, then at least give him a partner instead of a bystander who gets dragged into a situation he's not accustomed to.

Even if it isn't R-rated, it'd be nice if they shot it that way for the DVD. I would have preferred an R-rated Die Hard 4, but I hated how the Unrated cut basically amounted to dubbing the f-bomb in whenever Bruce has his mouth covered and a bunch of crappy, CG blood.

doesn't McLane have a son in the first movie? it'd be great if the fifth movie had something to do with his son... and yeah i do think his wife and daughter should be back also.

Stallone should reprise his role from Cobra in this.

The first is the best.

The second is pretty good.

The third one is sort of good, but feels a little off. Something is off about the tone. Also doesn't feel like a Die Hard movie. Of course, it wasn't originally.

The fourth one is pretty good, but also doesn't feel like a Die Hard.

What aout the second and third? John McClaine changed from DH 1 - 3, but it still felt like John McClane. In LFoDH, JM felt like the PC police tortured him for the past 10 years. He wasn't his usual cocky, smart ass and yes...profane character. John McClane should always be one step behind the terrorist but still figure out a way to win in the end. I didn't feel like that was the character presented in LFoDH. If they didn't want Bruce to be JM, then don't call the movie Die Hard.

Agreed. It cracks me when people think the theatrical PG-13 cut is the dubbed/censored version and the "unrated"(!) DVD is "the way it was meant to be seen!".

What? No way. Die Hard 4 (theatrical) had places where the actor's mouths were obscured and it felt like the dialogue was changed.

Anyways, Die Hard 4 wasn't a bad movie. It was just the most cowardice. Don't even try to say that they weren't holding back a more fully-realized, traditional Die Hard movie. I refuse to believe that.

I read a quote where Bruce mentioned that they'd hire Len Wisemen in a heartbeat, and as much as I love Stallone, I'd like to see Wisemen back as well. Even though it was neutered, Live Free or Die Hard fucking delivered some serious action and I think if Fox man's up and lets Len do an R-rated installment, it could be pretty damn good.

Yep'. There was just nothing fierce or intense about bickering with computer nerds.

I'm looking forward to Die Hard 5. Just give us someone a more epic and unrestrained like the first three.

Definitely. There are about a half dozen spots where it's clear a curse word was dubbed out. It's almost like there is an R cut out there that was the way the movie was shot because the PG-13 cut clearly isn't, and the Unrated cut seems like it stems from a R-ified version of the PG-13 cut. It definitely feels like there is a missing original version of the film out there.

Len Wiseman is a shitty hack director who makes shitty hack movies. Including Die Hard 4, which was as forgettable a big action picture as one could possibly make. Slick, hyperkinetically edited, logically retarded, it was practically a just-add-water movie. Once the projector stops, it's as if the movie never existed. McClane wasn't even a character anymore, he was just a damn prop.

Fox "manning up" would be giving the property to a creative team with an understanding of character and narrative, while at the same time delivering the action -- not as cartoonish CGI garbage, but hard-hitting, gritty, and immediate.

I'd watch a fifth DH, assuming Bruce can get the studio to make it R-rated and secure a stronger villain than Olyphant was. I want to see someone who can match Willis physically and mentally.
