I'd almost care as much if Atom took a swipe at MoviePass if Atom actually offered a service like MoviePass (pay a flat fee per month for movies, etc.). Now if if were Sinemia doing it then that would sting. Instead, you have a ticket broker getting wise. Yeah, ok.

So they are finally communicating to the users:
So that's new, I think, they admit they will selectively choose which movies in the theater to even show in the app.
Nothing about the price hike or any mention of the 1000 theater threshold.
Dear MoviePass Members,
First and foremost, I want to personally apologize to each of you for the inconsistencies and unreliability of our service over the past few days. Additionally, I regret our lack of proactive communication with you during this time; we are working hard to improve the communications to our community moving forward.
Over the last several days, we’ve begun making changes to our service that will help us continue to offer our members a high-value, low-cost, in-theater movie experience.
We believe that the company we have built — the fastest growing subscription company in history with more than 3 million members — has revolutionized the movie industry in the U.S. The first half of 2018 saw the total box office grow by almost 10 percent compared to last year, and we know MoviePass is responsible for a significant portion of that unprecedented growth.
In order to continue growing our service and maintaining a high level of financial discipline, we need to make some modifications:
We must reduce availability for big new-release titles, such as Mission: Impossible - Fallout and other popular new releases, at least for a while as we adjust the business model. We are working on making this more clear in the app so you know which titles are available.
Showtimes that are offered through our service will vary from day to day, and every showtime may not be available. We encourage you to check the MoviePass app for showtimes before you leave for the theater.
While our customer service team has made great strides of late, we still have a long way to go to provide the most responsive customer service experience for you. In the meantime, access to immediate support may become limited. However, we are working to prioritize the requests of members who are at the theater and introduce more self-help tools, as well as focus our resources on fixing glitches and bugs in the app.
Finally, we want to be as transparent as we can with these changes and any future changes. We are committed to giving you the best experience. We count on your support and loyalty while we implement these necessary steps for the company you’ve grown to love.
Thank you for your understanding and patience, and we’ll be in touch with more updates as we have them.
Mitch Lowe, CEO of MoviePass

Hahaha. They clearly want everyone who actively uses their membership to cancel. If they have any customers left after receiving that email I'd be surprised.
Everybody watch their credit card statements very carefully. I suspect they'll be plenty of charges next billing cycle for people who cancelled.

If I click on the 2 theaters near me they both say "There are no more screenings at this theater today" .. so that's not good.

Same here, pretty much all screenings close to me say the same thing. I'm done, have the Costco year subscription, going to request a refund, i'd be fine with a partial refund.

Is it so hard for Mitch Lowe to admit that this whole process went way over their heads and in order for them to survive and be fiscally responsible, they have to raise prices? Everything in his memo seems purposely vague.
Small company trying to make a big splash and name for themselves and it blew up in their faces.
I still think people are going to continue in droves and that 3M subscriber base is going to start dropping.

Well my wife and I are on the yearly plan - not over until December. I did buy them on Amex. I wonder if they would refund me? They do guarantee purchases...

I put in my Cancellation earlier today. Should be effective in about 9 days.
I was only a member since February of this year but I was able to see 33 films for $50, so I can't complain much there.
It's 6:03 (PDT) and not a single theater around me has any showtimes in the App. I have a hard time paying $15 when film & showtime availability is still so random & vague.
AMC and Alamo's Programs are not an option for me as I live about an hour away from either Chain and Cinemark's Program is incredibly limited.
Back to more viewings in my living room and selected time at the theater!

If you have Facebook, MoviePass just posted Mitch’s memo.
The comments are comedy
Good luck keeping your 3M subscriptions Mitch.

Looks like I got lucky tonight. Lots of people saying the app is not showing anything.
I checked in no problem and it's still showing movies for late shows.

As of 8pm PT (last I checked)
I got the "There are no more available screenings" message for every theater near me. Yet, there are multiple 8, 9, 10pm shows.
Screw this service. I guess they have no money to pay their IT guys. I'm sure the social media pages are getting hammered with hate messages and cancellation threats.
I hope their stock sinks to a 5 cents tomorrow.
I was hoping to use this maybe 1-2 more times during my last paid month to get something out of it.

Checked the app around 6 p.m. to glance at the possible showtimes and everything was listed. Looked again at 8:45 p.m. with interest in a 10 p.m. showing and all theaters around me (4 of them) had no available screenings. So it looks like I have to hit matinees on Monday-Wednesday.

His comparisons to Netflix are so pathetic. Oh, you can't get Game of Thrones on Netflix? Of course not, it's two different freaking companies. An accurate comparison would be Netflix advertises an original series and then tells you that you have to pay an extra surge charge to see it if it is really popular. Yea, I think Netflix users would be outraged if they pulled that crap.

They should've done measures like this months ago, but not all at once. If they raised the price then I would've been cool with it being $15-$20. I would've begrudgingly put up with waiting a week, but not two. (Lots of movies are gone by then.) I never liked the surge pricing, especially when it extended to most every movie. And now ditching the big releases and arbitrarily removing eligible showtimes? The value has decreased significantly.
My sub will renew on 8/11 and I'll likely cancel, but am thinking I might let it go one more month if the price increase hasn't kicked in yet since I have a decent multiscreen arthouse theater near me. But if I do nix the service I'll see what I can in the meantime. The historic, second run theater a few blocks from me does a lot of themed rep showings. Wednesdays this month they're doing 007 flicks. Hopefully MP's app will work and they'll pay the $5 for me to see Dr. No tonight.
Just out of curiosity, what are some popular/notable recent-ish movies that opened on only 1,000 screens? I'm talking mainstream stuff, as I know it's the norm for Oscar bait and indie films to roll out slowly.
