And don't get me wrong. I love Halloween and yes, it is a classic. Carpenter is a fantastic director (The Thing is my all-time favorite movie). But, looked at objectively, Halloween is (IMO) overrated considering its ranked usually as the best horror movie of all time. Just the acting alone is close to unbearable.

You are doing yourself no favors by calling Halloween overrated. It just comes off as trying to be different just because. Halloween has got to be one of those perfect movies for me. I don't think that I'd change one thing. Not one shot, not one camera angle, not one acting decision, and(as if it even needs to be said) not one note of that score. Don't you dare ever criticize Halloween again, you heathen.

I do agree that there is far worse horror than RZ flicks. It's easy to pick on Zombie because he remade Halloween but he had to expect it taking on a monster like that. I really like The Devil's Rejects but everything else has been a failure but at least somewhat interesting. I hope RZ can do it this time.

And because he's a double talking hack with no originality. House of 1K was Hooper lite, Devil's Rejects aped Peckingpah and Hooper, and Zombieween movies injected trailer trash chic in a story about a domestic monster. Horrible man behind the camera.

Whoa now. Halloween is a classic and a game changer (for the worse as time goes on) but there are elements that ages it and has things that don't make sense at all if you really think about it, for example...The horror icon driving.

He was taught how to in the sanitarium.

The trailer trash chic thing is something that holds him back. It seems like he's a little too concerned with being vulgar than being scary. I find The Devil's Rejects to be fun, Peckinpah ape and all. I can't stand up for his other stuff though but I guess the combination of being a non Halloween movie and an original movie has me at least going to watch this with some modicum of hope.

P.S.-Wait a minute, I just remembered Werwolf Women of the SS. No, you're right. Fuck him.

IMO the only people that understood the Grindhouse gimmick was Edgar Wright, Eli Roth, and Quentin Tarantino. Everyone else on the film just didn't get it.

Rodriguez got it. Especially w/ the Machete trailer.

Who cares about the elements that age a movie? Are you a teenager that needs to stay up to date on the latest trends and what not? No! You're a fucking man. You can watch a damn movie and get into it without going "Well, people certainly don't wear that style of hair today. Harumph!" And if Michael Myers wants to drive, he'll drive!

Completely disagree. Planet Terror felt more like a satire of grindhouse. Machete was cool though.

It's indicated that Michael either learned driving by watching, or someone taught him. Rob Zombie expanded on that by making the guards Michael's friends in the sanitarium.

I think Rodriguez thinks he got it. Although I do like the Machete trailer, it still feels like Rodriguez trying a little too hard. The Grindhouse feel that came naturally to the others(minus Zombie) just doesn't come as natural for Rodriguez. I got to say that the last Rodriguez movie I walked away fully satisfied from was From Dusk Till Dawn.

Not a fan of Sin City? Unless you're talking about a solo Rodriguez thing.

It's alright. I still have a nagging feeling about it though but I can't pin down what it is right now. Most likely because I haven't seen it since it opened. But Sin City came the closest to be being satisfying.

I still think it's his strongest film in a very long time.

I thought Zombie's Halloween was interesting until it got to the second half and tried to be a frame by frame re-make of the original with more gore and less sympathetic characters . I was hoping Zombie would try something different with the franchise, then the sequel came. Talk about careful what you wish for...

This is one of the main problems I have with him, too. I'm no prude, but it's so over the top that it irritates me. I gave up on the Halloween remake because of it.

Re: Rob Zombie's Lords Of Salem (2012)

I've yet to see his first film but I did really like Devil's Rejects. And like bits and pieces of his Halloween remake. But yes...his trailer trash elements got old quick. They fit well in DR but in Halloween it just pushed it too far and w/o proper narrative reason in having it as a cohesive element aside from it being his "style" of things.

Whenever I see the poster, I am instantly reminded of Beetlejuice...was that intentional?

I might be seeing this on Thursday. The only bummer is that it's in limited release, so the nearest theater that will have it is a bit of a drive away.

Zombie was on Howard Stern this morning and said there will be a "novelization" of the movie out this week. Apparently it's what Zombie really wanted to make if he were given a larger budget, and acts more as an alternate version of the story.

From what I've read, Zombie needs to continue directing movies, but stop writing them. Given what I've seen, I'm inclined to agree.

It expands on Friday. I know that four-to-five theaters in Vegas already have it booked for this weekend.

I thought novelization had been out? Maybe just the Kindle version. My friend's had it for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, just noticed that. My local Arclight will have it, so I get to knock out this and Oblivion over the weekend.

I got lucky. There is a theater about 10 minutes away that is showing this on Thursday at 10PM.

Thinking about picking up my ticket soon.

This doesn't appear to be playing anywhere near me. I'm really not surprised. I can wait for video, I suppose.
