This has about three weeks to get to theaters, otherwise we'll see it in February (at earliest).

It does not appear to be, no.

The films aren't similar and from the looks of that teaser, it doesn't look like Rob is going for that 'crossover appeal'.

Comments like that don't bother me as you can obviously tell they (the person who made the comment) is taking a backseat view on the film....meaning they probably could care less about this type of movie but decided to see it for other reasons.

EDIT: This is the comment I'm talking about: •@TheInSneider: Lords of Salem felt like a love it or hate it pic. Zombie's hardcore fans'll dig it but I don't think it'll be crossover hit Paranormal was.

Definitely not. From a directorial/camerawork standpoint, it's surprisingly calm and composed in comparison to Zombie's style on his other films, even during the more fantastical sequences. Reminded me of John Carpenter's compositions quite often. Lots of slow dollies, fixed cameras, that kind of thing. The visuals are a lot more stable than I recall them being in his previous pictures, and with most of the original cast now missing, the "gonzo" is probably turned down several levels (which may be a good thing, who knows). As I mentioned, much of the film feels like a series of eerie, sometimes ostentatiously-staged images, which can be stunning to behold even if the content is typical button-pushing on Zombie's part (the wanking popes, the "baby", etc). There are a few jump scares punctuating here and there, but I don't recall any big "gotcha" reactions from the audience, so maybe they're not Zombie's forte.

I'd agree that Peli/Paranormal/crossover comments have no relevance in a discussion of this film. Seems Peli's just a money man here? Frankly, though, I don't see this having the box-office appeal of Zombie's previous outings, regardless of any of that. It might get limited distribution (especially if Anchor Bay's gets it), and at $1.5 million, might even make some money on an opening weekend, though largely due to Zombie's brand recognition. Word of mouth should be interesting.

Very true! I think it annoys me just a little, because it sounds completely lazy.

Anchor Bay has this now, so it'll likely be a day and date VOD release.

I read somewhere that Zombie was heavy on the Ken Russell here.

Sounds like a good time.

Along with one of those "one night only" theater releases?

House of 1000 Corpses is my favorite Zombie flick, followed by Devil's Rejects. Superbeasto was okay, and the Halloween movies were shit. So far his track record with original works has been pretty good, so I'll give this a fair viewing.

Haha naw, that'd be a much wider release than this is going to get. This will probably be in 100 - 300 theaters for a standard run.

If gorgeous imagery alone were generally enough to draw me into films which I hadn't already seen, then this trailer would earn a gold star. But I have seen it, and this teaser definitely puts the film's best assets front and center throughout (virtually every key moment is represented here, if subtly), and I can imagine for some, that plus Zombie's name is a ticket sold. I should talk; I did pay double the going rate to check it out, after all, for better and worse:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JEV-I_JWwqU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Incidentally, the IMDB cast list has been updated somewhat to mention certain actors whose scenes were indeed deleted, but quite a few from my list way, way back, remain intact (including Billy Drago, whose part was never shot according to Zombie at TIFF), so either I gotta get my eyes checked and see this again on DVD, or maybe some snippets have been added back in. Guess we'll see.

It looks unique, so I have to give him some credit there.

I wish Peli and company would just distribute $2m to 10 directors at a time to churn out a slew of original horror flicks. I love that they're doing it at all, but for such a budget basement price they should be doing more of it.

Since the movie is being released in 2013 there is a chance Zombie could retool a bit of it, since they'd otherwise have been smarter to rush it out in time for Halloween.

The imagery is indeed gorgeous. So is Sherri Moon. I find her so incredibly attractive.

Wow - not at all what I was expecting out of this trailer. I know trailers can be cut to make a film look like a lot of things, but this definitely looks like a different kind of film from Zombie. I'm eagerly awaiting the finished film.

Looks interesting, wish I could have added it to my Halloween viewing list. :( Getting tired of this time of year only offering "found footage" crap.

Go see Sinister. I've heard good things, and it's not a found footage film.

Isn't Sinister a regular movie about found footage though? CAN'T ESCAPE IT! :D

Zombie's visual style is fantastic - it's the writing that sucks. If he would kick aside his ego and direct other people's scripts, he might one day make a truly great movie. Until then, they'll look pretty and play like crap.

Blabbermouth is reporting this will open on April 26, 2013.

Zombie is also co-writing a tie-in book.

Sounds like one of the Cenobites from the Hellraiser films.

I may hold off on this movie for a long while. Zombie hasn't quite gone of out of the Hooper lite phase, and I'm not interested in fetishizing Sheri Moon any further. I'll wait for general reaction.
