Re: Darren Aronofsky
I haven't voted yet since i haven't seen "The Fountain". I ordered it yesterday from Amazon so hopefully I'll be getting it soon. Everytime I decide on the other 4 that I have seen i think about how good one of the others were and change my mind to that one, then change my mind back. I would say Wrestler but Requiem is a very close second and I'm sure once i get a chance to watch Black Swan a few more times that will be up there as well. I haven't seen Pi since I bought the dvd when it came out but it was one of my favorite movies of 98.

tie #4 Pi, The Wrestler ... The Wrestler being a bigger dissapointment than Pi given when it came in his career

Re: Darren Aronofsky
just heads up , The Fountain starts on "Watch Instantly" on the 1/1, kinda wish I would have held up buying it, but like Seth said Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors and so far he is 4/4 with me for all the others that i have seen so i probably would have picked it up anyway. I think he's one of the few directors where I own everyone of their movies(once Black Swan becomes available anyway).

lol...personally, I'd like to see wtf DA can do w/ a superhero flick more than what he can do in general..cuz...well...seems like he's doing it the way he wants to do it. And I'd like to see how his style flares w/ the superhero film.

Haven't seen the ranking yet but I would rank his others:
1. The Fountain
1 1/2. Requiem For a Dream (it is really tough to rank it #2. One and a half seems fair.
)
2. Pi
.

.
4. The Wrestler
5. Black Swan
I am crossing my fingers that Black Swan is much improved over The Wrestler. Not that it was a bad movie but just wasn't up to par with his other three. And yes, I think Pi is better than The Wrestler.

Re: Darren Aronofsky
The Wrestler. Really the only one of his I liked, though I haven't seen Black Swan. I thought The Fountain was a pretentious film on a subject which should provoke modesty.
Aronofsky would be much better if he didn't give into literary and artistic fads. He has a great sense of emotion. The Wrestler didn't need any bullshit; it was an incredible and emotional story. I'd like to see him do more like it.
ETA: I also haven't seen Pi.

After watching Black Swan a little while back....I gotta say that although I am not into ballet at all...as far as the film itself goes....it's right up there with Requiem.

Re: Darren Aronofsky
Just caught Requiem for the first time in a while on IFC. The first thing I have to say is that the commercial breaks really suck. Secondly, what an unbelievably depressing movie. It truly boggles my mind how people can fall into drugs. I think pretty much everybody knows that drugs are bad so I just don't understand why anybody would try drugs for the first time and risk falling into an addiction spiral.
Anyway, it's a really good movie. I haven't seen Black Swan yet mainly because the plot just doesn't interest me. Catching Requiem tonight has actually inspired me to watch The Fountain again though. I remember being very intrigued by it but not liking it very much the first time I saw it. Think I'll give it another shot.

I totally agree with this. Although I did like Black Swan and Requiem a whole lot.

Re: Darren Aronofsky
I really hope that's true, as he is obviously very talented.
