No, simply putting on muscle with lean/cut definition on a 6'1" frame isn't my ideal Superman casting. I discounted Matt Bomer for the same reason, though he's a ridiculous'y handsome man with the right look, hair, piecing blue eyes, all above the collar bone, but his body frame was too slight even with an extra 25-35 pounds of muscle on it. But I'm confident they'll shoot Cavill at his good angles, and cast with shorter people to give the illusion of being taller than he truly is.
....isn't Supes w/ a 6'3" frame? 2 inches shorter.....not..that much short. I'm sure they'll transform that body to whatever needs to be done to be superman. He'll be fine most likely.

Christopher Reeve was a picture perfect Superman, but he was skinny and lanky as a toothpick when he was first cast. He had to work with David Prowse in a matter of weeks to get into a Superman-styled physique. I think Cavill will be just fine.

Interesting choice. I've never heard of Cavill, but I'm kind of glad they went with an unknown actor like Routh 5 years ago.
It should be interesting to hear the names tossed out for Lois Lane. I thought Rachel McAdams would have been a better choice than Kate Bosworth in the last film.

Superman is around 6'4" in DC lore, and it's the difference between being a point guard and a shooting guard/small forward in the NBA.

Reeve packed on about 40 pounds for the role, but his height is what sold the look of Superman. We'd be complaining if they had casted Tom Cruise for the role because he's a midget, but from the neck up, might have the looks to pass for the role (or not). Truth be told, I thought Reeve was a still a little lean for his body frame, another 10-15 pounds would have looked "right".

Or even Katie Cassidy? I think she could pull it off after darkening her hair.

I still dont think Hemsworth put on enough muscle for Thor and this guy will just look like another skinny guy... The problem with Hollywood trainers is they know how to lean people out, but they dont know how to bulk someone up the proper way. Its going to take this guy something of the illegal variety to look like the man of steel. I do like the idea of Olivia Wilde as Lois just for the hot factor.

Also, it'd depend on Rashida's shooting schedule on "Parks and Recreation" since TV shows shoot in the summer to get ahead for the fall season, and Superman will be filming in the summer as well. But at 35, with sequel-itis in the air, can't see them picking her now when she'll be over 40 by the 3rd film if the relaunch does well.

I may be obtuse but all these Minka Kellys and Olivia Wildes are all the same to me.
Are there any young pretty faces that can actually act?
