How would you rank it in comparison to the works if Herzog of John Travolta's 80s movies?
I just want to beat FRwL to the punch.

It's actually #13. Kinda like a hybrid of #11, the Walmart early screening spot with some more new scenes added. Either way, absolutely lovin' it!

Holy smokes, the flying sequences in this film look PERFECT.
My parents (who are both in their 70s), called me today and want me to take them to see this...they see virtually NOTHING in the theaters, so that's a pretty good sign (to me) that this movie is going to be seen outside the normal "fanboy" contingency. Hiring Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, and Michael Shannon were smart movies (my Dad is a huge fan of all three actors, so he's excited about the film).

The character has a 75 year history... between the 1940s serials, the radio shows, the classic Fleischer cartoons, the 50s George Reeves TV show, the 60s and 70s animated series, the Christopher Reeve movies, the Superboy TV show, the 90s Dean Cain/Teri Hatcher ABC show, the 90s animated series from STAS through JLU, Smallville, even Superman Returns (ick) -- every generation (outside of comic book readers, who have been there since day 1) has some nostalgic draw to the character, one way or another.

Singer unwisely choose to remake/plagiarize the good one when it was II that has always had the most room for improvement and unrealized potential.

Looks like Snyder and Goyer will likely be back for a sequel: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/274...f-steel-sequel

I wonder just how serious Synder and Goyer are going to take the ramifications of the film they have made. Something as fundamental and human history altering as the discovery of intelligent, advanced life in the universe can't be ignored- especially when it attends wholesale slaughter and destruction on this planet. It would change everything- from political discourse & the alliances of entire nations to fashion and the way we think and express ourselves.
This world would start taking on more of a mindset like the Japanese have had after Hiroshima. A lot of fascinating sci-fi ramifications here that, if they don't explore them, means we'll be getting what is ultimately just a tonally different variation on the Batman TV show. Costumed hero runs round punching colorful villains and ultimately it doesn't mean anything or change the status quo.

That aspect of the existence of such a character into the real world is so fascinating to me. It changes a lot. As said, I do hope it becomes a background factor.
