He needs to shave. Only evil Superman has a 5 o'clock shadow. If youre going for an older Superman I think Jon Hamm would be perfect.

I like Laurence Fisburne. He's a fine actor. But I absolutely hate that it appears they feel the need to diversify the cast to cater to minorities. Same shit they did with Daredevil and making Kingpin black or Marvel doing that with Samuel L. Jackson and Nick Fury.

I only want the curl to be turned in the shape of an S not backward like in Returns.

P.S. Nick Fury is black in the Ultimate universe.

I know Nick Fury is black in the ultimate universe. But he wasn't black in the 30+ years proceeding that. Neither was Kingpin. I just find it stupid. I understand why they do it, but that that they do it at all is what bugs me.

If it's done simply to fill a quota of minorities in a movie, that's stupid. If it's being done because Laurence Fishburne is a great actor with plenty of presence who will more than ably play this supporting role, then I'm all for it.

and unfortunately, I think it's sort of the first part of your statement. maybe not to fill a "quota" but rather to broaden the cast for a wider audience.

Henry Cavill Talks Nutrition, The Superman Costume And Being True To The 'Man of Steel'
Superman is one of those characters who really should be a physically intimidating force. He doesn't have to be a juggernaut or anything, but the actor who's playing him needs to embody the powerful alien in some manner.
Actor, Henry Cavill takes on the role in the upcoming, 'Man of Steel.' Standing at about 6'1, he definitely has the height, but how about the weight? In an interview with Total Film, Cavill talked about what he has been doing to craft his body into one worthy of being called "super." He said:
"I’m on 5000 calories a day… You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs…you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman."
Fans are very eager to see Cavill in the suit. That may or may not happen in the near future, but the actor spoke about it, saying:
"It’s extremely cool. There’s no other feeling like it. They just put it on, I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh. I thought 'OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it…you’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.'"
Cavill was tight-lipped concerning the plot, but he said that he's "being as true as I can be to the original character and who the character is." When speaking with io9, he revealed which comics precisely helped him to prepare for the character he's to play. He said:
"I did love Superman: Doomsday The Death of Superman, Superman Returns, The New Krypton Saga especially, Red Son. Red Son was cool because it had the alternate story line. A lot of them I love, but recently, the one I read most recently was The New Krypton Saga, and I really enjoyed that."
In addition to Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, 'Man of Steel' features Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and the newly announced, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.
With '300,' 'Watchmen' and 'Sucker Punch' director, Zack Snyder at the helm, the film hits theaters on June 14, 2013.

I never knew him before this, but he sounds like he's respectful to the character and his head is in the right place...

The more I mull over the Fisburne casting, the more leery I become.
For this reason- I like my Perry Whites scrappy and/or irascible (see Jimmy Cooper or John Hamilton).
I don't like them noble and stoic (see Frank Langella).
And while i initially didn't see race in this instance being huge relevancy- I have to wonder if there will now be some kind of self-conscious incumbency that 'this black guy' can't simply ever look silly, clueless, or foolish- and will have to come across somewhere in the narrative as heroic (as befitting the castings barrier shattering status).
Coopers Perry White, which is my personal paragon for the character- was frequently in the position of being enthusiastic but seriously off base and ultimately foolish (a prime example being the post first appearance pep talk he gives in the first film). Most of the time the character was utilized, it was in that vein. And he worked beautifully as comic relief.
I can easily see Fisburne being a sage mentor to Clark and Lois. I can see him expressing noble and righteous indignation when the paper or his reporters are threatened by outside forces.
Unfortunately I don't want to see either of those things in these new films.
I would love to see the media (and newsmen) treated less as noble archetypes and more as simple, amusingly flawed, working stiffs and how they react when a god descends amongst them.
I hope I'm proven wrong, but I see Fisburne more as bait for the former than the latter.

And the spot where the undies are in shadows to keep you guessing. The consensus seems to be that they have been removed for this iteration right?
