Re: Superman: The Man of Steel (D: Snyder)
If Nolan wanted to kill Batman, Jeff Robinov and the rest of the bigwigs at Warner would probably give him the thumbs up to do so.
I don't know where this DC Comics "clout" you talk about comes from, but in reality, DC is treated like the bastard step child over in the Warner family.

DC is a drop in the bucket when you look at Warner Bros. as a huge conglomerate and even a "Batman" movie with a disappointing box office performance is going to be seen by exponentially more people than any given DC comic book featuring Batman but the fact of the matter is that DC does have the final word in regards to how the character is portrayed in other media.

I know Cesar Romero played Joker. I just associate anything related to that show as Adam West in general. I grew up watching reruns of the show. Julie Newmar was my first childhood crush.

Not my first (that was actually animated Sandy Duncan on Scooby-Doo), but Newmar as Catwoman is still a high-ranking member of my celebrity crush list. And how the hell did we get onto this, anyway? Just yesterday I was being raked over the coals for hazarding a guess about what implications there might be for The Man of Steel based on events taking place in the comics and now we're wondering what will happen in The Dark Knight Rises? At least I was on topic when I went off topic!

Source?
I have read the vast majority of Superman related comics from COIE to present day, and I don't recall anything ever specifically retconning it.
The closest that I can recall is Superman #666, where Clark has a nightmare of becoming an evil warlord. A demon tells him he has killed before, although he doesn't seem to remember it at first. When Clark wakes up, he asks Lois if he has ever killed. Lois says of course not, but Clark seems to have doubts.
I think it was really left up to the reader to determine what it meant. It does seem very odd that Clark would have completely forgotten something as major as killing the pocket plane criminals, but the end also seems to indicate that Clark is having doubts.

Laurence Fishburne cast as Perry White in 'Man of Steel' -- EXCLUSIVE
Lois Lane and Clark Kent just got their boss: Laurence Fishburne will play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, EW has learned exclusively. White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop.
The Superman reboot, produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder, stars Henry Cavill as Clark (a.k.a. Superman), Amy Adams as Lois, and Michael Shannon as General Zod. It’s due to begin filming this fall, and is slated for release on June 14, 2013.

Laurence Fishburne!! ![Eek 2](/images/smilies/eek2.gif)
Too bad Hugh Laurie is still doing House, he IMO would have been a perfect Perry White. He was actually originally cast as White in Superman Returns but dropped out because of the show.

I think Fishburne is a great actor and he will definitely make Perry White his own. His talents were wasted doing CSI for the last 3 seasons, so it's good to see him get such a high profile role. I guess I'm so used to Perry being a cranky old white man like Lane Smith on Lois and Clark and Jackie Cooper in the original movies.

Fishburne? Hmm.
Interesting. Not a real big fan of his, but willing to go in with an open mind. The tertiary characters are really where a new storyteller has the widest berth as far as his own unique interpretation goes.
I finally got around to seeing Social Network and now know who Rashida Jones is. I'm kind of disappointed now they went with someone who strikes me as a more obvious and safe choice (if they are going for a warm, quirky Lane ala Kidder as a template here). Jones seems like she would have definitely spiced it up a bit.
Given the release date extension, though- I won't be surprised if some of these names drop out and are recast.

Personally, I like the casting choice of Fishburne as Perry White. He was one of the bright spots for me in Mission: Impossible III and I see this being a somewhat comparable role: a position of authority, but largely peripheral. Plus, as I understand it, he's a geek so I feel comfortable with one of our own on board.

So this already starts filming later this month? So odd they pushed it back to 2013. What a bummer.
I think he has the correct type of presence. Routh didn't inspire you in the role (I know, and entirely different conversation), but just from his appearance Cavil has the charm and charisma to pull of the role. Plus, every interview I've seen tells me he has respect for the role and wants to get things right.
