I will continue to answer questions here, but also in spoiler tags. But to summarize my thoughts:
My favorite of the summer blockbusters so far, favorite Supes movie (out of 1,Returns and parts of 3) and I really enjoyed it.

Oh, and it's also very fitting that you got to start the reviews thread, son of Jor-El.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
You say you liked it better than '1' (I assume that refers to the 1978 Donner film). Did you like that film as well, and just like this one more, or did you not like that one. I only ask because it helps to understand your tastes when reading your comments. And does your comment also mean that you have never seen "II" (the 1980 Lester/Donner sequel)?

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
Yeah I did indeed like the first one (1978), despite some of the corny elements. Have never seen II unfortunately. Big fan of the Fleischer shorts though! And I did watch the 50's show as a kid.

Here's something I've wondered about:
The casting.
How does this movie compare with the (perfect, in my opinion) casting of Superman (1978)?
Amy Adams vs. Margot Kidder
Laurence Fishburne vs. Jackie Cooper
Henry Cavill vs. Christopher Reeve
Cavill's got BIG shoes to fill. I thought Chris Reeve's casting was one of the best casting choices of all time. Ditto with Margot Kidder. Her attitude, husky voice, look all embodied Lois Lane. Amy Adams seems to girl-next-door-ish to me.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
I'd say that Cavill certainly delivers, but it's in a way that I haven't seen before in a Superman movie.
Amy Adams did seem girl next door-ish/herself, I don't know much about Lois really, but Amy Adams had a spunky kind of sensibility. My friend is not a fan of hers though so he wasn't as happy.
I don't remember Jackie Cooper much unfortunately, but I think you will be pleased with Laurence Fishburne.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
Thanks. That really helps add some perspective. Have you ever seen Bruce Timm's Superman: TAS?

How's the music score?
I know, I know. I hate comparing so much, but I can't help it. I'm walking in with pre-conceived images of Superman.
Hans Zimmer vs. John Williams.
That's the one thing that The Dark Knight didn't have over Tim Burton's Batman. Danny Elfman's score.

I listened the 90-second previews the other day and my one takeaway was there seemed to be too much percussion.

Just need one question answered.
What was your honest immediate reaction after walking out of Returns?
Thanks!

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
Disagree. There was a strong contingent of people who thought it was really good.
Like Indy 4, I walked out thinking I was the victim of an awful prank.
Just curious about his gut reaction to Returns. If he hated it and loved MoS, I will get more hyped.

I was one of those, however, who shit my pants after seeing it. The awfulness of it made my bowels loosen and lose all control.

Weird. It felt like a remake of the original film to me, and just bored me. Or it could have been because the first time I watched it was on the horrible Blu-ray disc.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
I'm hearing the movie is deadly serious, no humor whatsoever, boring, and simply rehashes the origin story we've already seen a couple of times.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread
There were definitely more than a few laughs. The origin is done in a way that I thought was unique, I think you'll see what I mean.

Whoever you're hearing these from obviously have not seen any footage WB has released since the 3rd trailer. A year ago I might have agreed with this, but I've been completely turned around since.
