Re: Hangover 2 (2011) (dir.Todd Phillips)

I didn't have a problem with Doug it's just he really wasn't in the first one for most of it so it was hard to get attached to the character. The trailer for this looks okay but it shows very little too. Hopefully it can be at least decent but I really doubt it'll be anywhere near the original.

People coming into threads about something especially when it's a sequel to something they already apparently don't like just to put said subject down sure are awesome!

Typical DVDTalk thread-

Prior to gaining popularity:

This is a sleeper hit and is hilarious!

Two weeks later once it's caught on with the general public:

This movie sucks.

Meh. This looks almost like a point for point re-tread of the first one. If they have lost Doug again, that is beyond dumb. They could at least have a different scenario, as opposed to the same on with a different city and country.

Let me also say that I loved the first one and saw it opening night. It grabbed me with the premise that it looked funny. This looked amusing, but too much of a been-there, done-that vibe.

I like the first one but really have doubts about this one being even half as good. It just has the feeling of disaster written all over it.

She may be in it. I thought this was the bachelor party for Ed Helms' character? Did I just make that up?

Saw in the credits that Juliette Lewis is in this as "Heidi"...which was her character name in Old School.

I read somewhere a while back that Graham's character doesn't appear in the movie.

That is dumb as hell it fucks of the continuity of the first film. To me it would have made more sense that Ed's character marry her. Hopefully there is a good explaination for it.

I liked the first one, but it was just an average comedy to me. It wasn't the funniest movie of all time like some people proclaimed.

See? Continuity issues aren't just in comic book movies!

His character was very straight-laced and clearly came out of his shell on that night but I think having him actually marry a prostitute would be too much of a reach.

I completely agree, but I will say that it's on HD channels all the time now and I find it's one of those movies I can drop in on and watch to the end. Well, almost the end. Once they depart Vegas, I usually depart watching.

Based on the two "points" you see in the trailer? I mean, it's "The Hangover II" so you know it isn't going to deviate from the original too much but what is there in the trailer that would suggest that it's a "point for point re-tread"? Did I miss a Mike Tyson scene, a taser scene, a scene with a tiger etc.? No.

If they have lost Doug again, that is beyond dumb. They could at least have a different scenario, as opposed to the same on with a different city and country.
You're right. "The Hangover II" shouldn't be about the same three guys recovering from a hangover. They should also mix it up and have, you know, one of the actual stars of the movie passed out and missing and replaced by the no-name friend guy with 2 minutes of screentime for the first because that would be more realistic then, you know, actually giving the audience a scenario it wants with characters they know.

Let me also say that I loved the first one and saw it opening night. It grabbed me with the premise that it looked funny. This looked amusing, but too much of a been-there, done-that vibe.
I'm pretty sure the whole point of a trailer like this is to remind audiences that they've "been-there" and "done-that' because they enjoyed it back then and obviously want more.

One possible (very easy) explanation: They broke up. And it's realistic to boot! Hey, if it worked for Karate Kid and James Bond, it works for me.
