I didn't read through the whole thread yet, so if someone beat me to it and said Ashton Kusher, bollicks to you, sir.

But I think Ashton got extremely lucky with his career. I know he was spotted by a talent scout, and was initially "a model," but I don't find him particularily handsome (not in a Don Draper way), and I don't find him out-of-the-ordinary "cute" (when compared to the above-average nobody working 9-5). Plus, I don't find him to be an extraordinary actor - his range seems somewhat limited. I'll even go above-board and say he's an "average" actor.

Keanu Reeves has him beat in the "cute" department, by the way.

As far as successful supporting actors with bad faces, I'd say Clint Howard is a lucky sonofabitch to be in movies for as long as he's been in movies. In real life, this guy with this face would be lucky to get a mop job.

Nah. I liked Julia Roberts. I say "liked" because after her Oscar-win for Erin Brockovich, her movie roles haven't been that interesting. Okay...they've been god-awful, but her work prior to 2000 have been pretty good. Loved her in "Steel Magnolias" (Al Bundy's favorite movie) and "Pretty Woman." And, face it, she acted her ass off in "Erin."

hrm....I dunno about that. The man played cowboy and he did it well. He had charisma and a look that made him iconic. His role as Cogburn isn't his best, nor was that Oscar more than a lifetime achievement thing, IMO.
