What about Howie Long? I think we could use an ex-football player, and Jim Brown is probably too old at 74.

Sylvester Stallone Wants Bruce Willis to Play a “Super Villain” in THE EXPENDABLES Sequel
by Jason Barr Posted:August 29th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Per the source of any/all relevant breaking news, Twitter, Sylvester Stallone is not only already planning The Expendables sequel, he is wining and dining Bruce Willis as a potential cast member. Stallone recently tweeted:
“Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?”
What do I think, Sly? For starters, I think you should stop boasting about having dinner with Bruce Willis. No one likes a braggart. In regards to the film, I’m all for Bruce Willis doing whatever the hell he wants to do (the dude’s Bruce Willis). That said, isn’t there an aging WWE star and/or Ultimate Fighting Champion that “acts” on the side and who would probably keep the film’s overhead lower (the ten year old kid in me votes for “The Undertaker”)? I mean, it’s not like The Expendables sequel isn’t going to rule the box office for a couple of weeks or so regardless of its antagonist.

Sylvester Stallone Says 'Expendables' Sequel Is 'Plotted Out'
'It's plotted out in my mind's eye,' Sly says of possible follow-up to bloodthirsty box-office champ.
By Eric Ditzian (@ericditzian)
When MTV News caught up with Sylvester Stallone at Comic-Con in late July, he professed more than a little nervousness about the possible fate of "The Expendables" at the box office. While Sly had hopes to shoot a sequel to his bombs-and-brawn throwback to '80s action blockbusters, he wasn't sure how everything would shake out and what his next project would be.
"It all depends on how this film does," he told us in San Diego. "Next thing might be directing at a parking lot, or it might be a film."
Now, it seems Stallone just might get the chance to shoot an "Expendables" sequel, after the first one opened to $35 million in ticket sales over the weekend. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter following the movie's big opening, Stallone said he knows exactly the direction a sequel would take.
"It's plotted out in my mind's eye," he said. "I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can't become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges."
It was a challenge as well for Sly even to get "Expendables" made. He credited "Rambo" producer Avi Lerner for getting the flick a green light and called making "Expendables" one of his most satisfying Hollywood experiences.
"My proudest moment ever was not 'Rocky,' it was the last Rocky picture, 'Rocky Balboa,' " he said. "To be able to meet the challenge of completing that series after all these years, that was great. But this one here tops that — not in an emotional way but for excitement. This should have never happened. Avi Lerner really took a big gamble on me with this when nobody else would. I know because I heard about it every day! He kept worrying about the reviews."

WTF? It's not like this is Harry Knowles talking about having dinner with Bruce Willis. It's friggin' Sly of all people. I highly doubt the man had any intention of boasting about it... Unless this guy was trying to be funny and failing miserably?

The Expendables 2 (2012?)
Not much, but here's some early news via AICN:
At this weekend's Golden Globes, Bruce Willis offered a quick update on the upcoming EXPENDABLES sequel, in which he's expected to reprise the "Mr. Church" role he cameoed in the first film.
"Apparently it's going to happen this year," he said.
When asked if he will be in it -- as has been rumored -- Bruce confirmed the news.
"As far as I know, barring any unforeseen circumstances, but yeah, I would love to be a part of it," he said.
This per Yahoo.
Via his Twitter stream, Stallone has previously indicated that Willis' role would be considerably enhanced this time around.
Meanwhile, numerous reports...like THIS ONE...say that there's a very good chance Jean-Claude Van Damme will appear in the new film, provided Steven Seagal is not in the picture. Which doesn't sound like too big an issue, as Seagal is evidently not keen to appear in a movie produced by EXPENDABLES' Avi Lerner.
Hopefully all of these developments will push forward the video release of Stallone's EXPENDABLES re-cut, which he says is quite a bit different than the version we saw in theaters. I really, really want to see that new edit of the film...I enjoyed the first movie, but feel it might be well served by some rejiggering.
More as we know more...

Van Damme and Jason Statham. Those two are really all you need in a movie like this. As much as I disliked THE EXPENDABLES, I could be suckered in again by this pairing. If, of course, it happens.

I think Van Damme knows he'd be a fool to pass on starring in a film that made over $300m WW. He hasn't done anything that successful since... ever? I wish Arnie would shape up for this one, but he recently said he's basically done with shoot-em-up films.

Agreed. I would be psyched all over again if there was going to be a Statham vs. Van Damme showdown.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
Snippet of an interview with Jason Statham from Collider:
Have you heard about a sequel to The Expendables?
Statham: Yes I have heard about a sequel and I’d be the first to say yes to a phone call from Sly. I mean, we spoke about it as soon as the movie started to do really well and he says, you know, it would be great to do this again, and if there’s anyone who can do a good sequel it’s Sly Stallone! He’s done a fair amount. Yeah, we had a good time. It’s something I’d like to repeat.
How far out do you plan for your career? Are you thinking, I’ve got films lined up all in 2011, I’ve got four things, or are you sort of like, I take one project at a time and that’s as far as I’m going to look?
Statham: Sometimes you can get kind of chopped up with it. This is the first period in several years now that for the next few months I’m not doing anything. Normally come January the last three years, I’ve always had something in front of me. The trouble is, once you sign on to do a movie, there’s always an aspect of that, that you might miss something else, so.. The most I’ve had is a couple of movies in front of me, but now I’m just waiting for Stallone’s next film, The Expendables 2.
There’s been a lot of conjecture that, ‘it’s definitely going, that it might be going’…
Statham: It’s more than likely, yeah. I’m very positive that it will be going.
Oh, so this is what you’re waiting on.
Statham: Yes. Right now.

From Dark Horizons:
Despite having just left his political position, Arnold Schwarzenegger is already talking about returning to film and tells Austrian publication Krone.at (via TheArnoldFans.com) that he is currently looking at three scripts.
"Currently I'm reading three scripts. One topic/script, which I considered a long time ago before governor, is delighting me particularly. In it I would play an older soldier, who gets the order at the ending of the war to kill a bunch of kids. But he doesn't do it and get them to safety at the risk of his life and it has all kind of adventure. This script is based on a true story!" he says.
That project he's referring to is the Randall Wallace-scripted "With Wings As Eagles" which is based on the true life story about a German officer who does not agree with his surrounding Nazi party and instead helps the American POWs escape.
Schwarzenegger goes on to say that age limitations mean he can't be the man of action he once was anymore - "In the future I have to adapt my roles to my age. Clint Eastwood also has done it in the same way. Extreme fighting or shooting is not possible anymore. I want to be more encouraged as an actor and I believe that I can manage this challenge. I am like a sponge, which is absorbing all the knowledge and always be willing to learn all new things."
****************************************************
Sorry, buddy. Trust me, I had the same fantasy of seeing a newly-bulked Arnie fucking shit up like it was '85 all over again. Probably ain't happening.
