This is the best movie I've seen all year, I'm almost 100% certain, and I don't think it will be topped.
I'll write a more in depth review on it tomorrow after I see it again tonight.

Maybe his tone and infliction are the same, but his character is totally different. Like I said earlier, he's sorta like a young Homer Simpsons, likable, but selfish and a bit of a dope. I think that's pretty different from his other characters.
Act how? She seemed normal enough to me - besides the fact that she was bitter at life and especially at Scott.

As for the drummer chick, all I saw when I looked at her face was arrogance and pretentiousness. The "I'm better than everyone else, and I'm going to complain about how inferior everyone else is" type

Yup, that about sums it up. The hatred here for this film is nothing more than an age thing, the forum is clearly an older crowd, & this movie clearly was never marketed for them, so it really just comes off like a bunch of old-farts bashing on what they call "hipsters", which from some of the posts is just hilarious. I loved the comic which usually makes me even more critical of the film, but my enjoyment of this particular films came from the cinema-aspect first. Its just a joyfully made film that is completely unique & refreshing.

Maybe it is an age thing, at least for me. I'm 63 and I thought it was bloody awful. I gave it 1 1/2 stars because I thought the cast did rather well (but I was disappointed that Anna Kendrick, brilliant in Up in the Air, was utterly wasted). Imaginative but waaay overdone. I admit I know nothing about the source material.
My wife is out of town so I saw this alone. The fact that I didn't drag her to this probably saved my 37 year marriage.

But that has nothing to do with the quality of a film, many of what are IMO the best films of the past 10+ years, most here haven't even seen & hardly made a blip on the box office radar. Plus, I think I posted this very early on in the original Pilgrim thread & people argued against it, I knew the film would flip. Its a "niche" film. Hell, 99% of comic book fans haven't even read Scott Pilgrim. Even that aside, IMO this is an absolutely great piece of filmmaking, & an open minded fan of movies should put their judgements aside to enjoy something unique.

Great movies aren't always successful movies. I took one look at the trailer and knew it would flop. It wasn't in 3D, there were no blue aliens and nothing turned into a robot. It was doomed from the start.
It'll destroy on Blu-ray though. Day 1 purchase for me.

Tone is hard to convey on a thread. If you look at my earlier review post you will see that I too loved this movie. I meant for my post to convey disappointment that the movie didn't do well and many people will assume that means it is no good.
What's sad is that I have seen many movies I thought were awesome, but then reading some article about it in Entertainment Weekly calling it a "disaster" or "disappointment" . The discouraging aspect is that they always talk about the financial performance as that was the detrimental factor to its quality in the eyes of many. Hell, I've seen cases where they buzz about a movie having Oscar potential and the upon a bad opening, it becomes a dark horse, like people who once liked it no longer like it due to its return numbers. Kind of hypocritical.

Just got back from the movie and I really enjoyed it. Not as much as I loved the books, but I'm anxious to see the movie again.

I spend nearly every weekend at bars that are primarily hipster hangouts, and spend most of the week discussing the hipster lifestyle with my wannabe hipster coworker. But of course, you would know better.Anyway, I don't think ANYONE has stated that the movie is all about hipsters and isn't good because of it. No. What HAS been stated is that the marketing for the film made it look like it was geared solely toward the cool young kids (read the movie thread back when the first trailers appeared). And it's because of that marketing to a niche audience that it is failing at the box office. Has NOTHING to do with the quality of the film, or whether its really about hipsters, or geeks, or albino German nurses.
But, like Hokeyboy said, everyone is so defensive about the hipster label that they miss the point of the discussion.

But I do it because I'm hanging out with the aforementioned hipster wannabe pal, and he can't get enough of the hipster girls. I am much too uncool to actually be a hipster. My point is that just because someone is older, it doesn't mean that they're out of touch. That's snobbery of its own kind.

You are right, I only made that judgement from several posts that came off clearly like an older person instantly dismissing the film. But being that I've been accused of being a "hipster" on these boards, I know I shouldn't rush to judgement. Personally, I don't care if someone is 12 or 62 if they can appreciate that this is a great film, they are cool enough for me.

Just got back from seeing and I liked it quite a bit. I had never read any of the graphic novels but after how much I enjoyed the movie I think I might pick them up now. I liked it that it was completely different then movies I'm used to seeing and I loved all the little homages to video games, comic books and geekiness. Him playing the little Final Fantasy bit on his guitar and the Zelda theme music playing near the beginning of the movie. I voted 4-stars in the poll, just a fun time at the movies.

finally saw this tonight and loved every second of it. i'm a fan of the books and wright really knocked this out of the park. such a travesty this movie isn't doing well at the box office. wright is 3 for 3 (plus an amazing tv series and a hilarious fake trailer) and i'm fairly sure he can do no wrong. excellent casting and the comedic beats were perfect. can't wait to check this out again later this week and for the eventual blu-ray release!

Never read the comic, saw the movie. Liked it but didn't love it. Spaced, Shaun and Fuzz are all better imo. It got repetitive towards the end and could easily have lost at least one of the "battles" without disrupting the narrative. I found many of the characters rather unlikable, and no I'm not just talking about the exes. Really wish anyone else but Cera was chosen. Kieran Culkin was hilarious. Loved the nods to video games(Sex Bomb-omb. ha). Always love any kind of shout out to Pixies in a movie even if it's a throway line. Is Scott's band considered good in the comic? Their music sucked in the movie. It's too bad it didn't do very well this weekend. I would still definitely be interested in seeing a sequel. It was an enjoyable time even paying full-price, unlike that POS Eat Pray Love which I payed only $6 for and still felt ripped off at the end. I may rent it when it hits BD. I could see liking it more on a second viewing, unlike Kick Ass which I predicted would be worse the second time around and for me it was.

Guys guys guys. This is not a movie about hipsters. It's about slackers. Since when were video game references associated with hipsters?

this movie is about suburban indie rock kids that look like they buy their clothes from target.
hipsters are trust fund kids that try to look homeless.
