Saw this today and liked it a lot. Didn't read through the other 11 pages.

I really don't think there was anything going on then what was on the surface.

Oh and all the talk about James Bond meets the Matrix... meh. This movie was more like Shutter Island than anything else. I really had no idea that Leo's issues with his dead wife would be the predominant plot in the film.

Wait. I thought Cain was Cobb's father, not Mal's.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

saw inception today. in my opinion the entire movie is inside cobb's original dream and that his wife did in fact discover they were in a dream and escape it by killing herself. why is it any more plausible that she is delusional about reality when cobb could also be?

she even mentions that cobb imagines himself as some important person being tracked down by people from around the world (or something like that), which he is in the movie. that is just like total recall.

the thing i don't understand is if it is in a dream then the top shouldn't fall down like it did many times leading up to the end. but they did show the top being touched by someone else, which is not supposed to happen. the asian business guy touches it right in the beginning. so perhaps the entire movie takes place in his dream so he controls the top?

you can go even deeper with that since that one "thief" guy can shape-shift, so who says anyone in the movie is really who we think they are? maybe it is all some plot by the asian guy to trick cobb by letting him think he the one in control and creating dreams? it's infinite dreams.

Whoever Leo is dating right now has to be sweating bullets over his recent duo of dead wife thrillers.

The J. Edgar Hoover film directed by Eastwood.

I think so. Personally, I'd like to see the guy have fun in a movie for a change. When was the last film this guy made where he smiled.

After looking at that photo, I have a feeling he smiles enough off camera. I give him even more credit now. How the hell does he not have a big grin in every scene of every movie?

When you consider how many bullets were fired in their direction, no, no it does not. Especially considering these shooters were made to kill anyone who tried to entered that guy's head.

What did you want? Did you want everyone to be shot or killed? Realistically that's what would have happened. But they are in a dream so realism doesn't count for much. Like with almost any movie, you have to suspend your disbelief when you enter the theater. Hate to tell you, but in 90% of movies with violence, the main characters stay alive.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

I loved it. Caught a late 10:40 PM showing after a busy day at the state fair and having watched Despicable Me earlier in the afternoon, so I was trying pretty hard to listen and catch everything. I immediately wanted to watch it again. While I wish there was some more backstory for the other characters, I don't think it really hurt the film. I had no problems being emotionally invested in Cobb and Mal.

I think some of the theories out there about Michael Caine's character and Cobb being the victim for Inception is a bit too far out there for me, but then again I don't really think outside the box too much. The question over whether the last scenes were a dream or not was enough for me

And im not sure what Sessa and Blu Man were arguing about, but Nolan's action scenes sucked in Begins and have improved with Dark Knight and again with Inception.

I had so much more to say about INCEPTION, but I got flamblazzed by those incredibly tasty tits.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

I just got back from a sold-out mid afternoon showing (and there were long lines for the next two), so I see this having incredible word of mouth. I can see why the film did relatively well on its opening weekend.

I didn't have one thing I disliked about the film.. I felt everything was executed right and the concept wasn't so out there that it goes over your head. The "groan" at the end of the film at my showing was of surprise since most everyone laughed after.

I thought it was great -- another grand slam for Nolan.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

The ending could go a couple ways.

One, the top did start to falter a little bit. It fell over right after we fade to black. The shot of the childern is simlar. But were they wearing the same clothes? I'll have to take note when I'm watching next time. He does these "missions" in an hour-or-so. Who's to say that he's been out of the USA for more than a couple months? We were just being teased and the filmmaker wanted to test us a little bit, but really has an answer - that all turned out well.

Two, he was still in a dream. His wife knew what was up and left. He is actually laying in a coma somewhere. The movie's plot was just a ploy, in order to get him into some deeper, more dilusional state - which he's alright with. This theory requires us to accept that he fabricates all of the technology, characters, etc. inside of the dream/coma state.

I think it was a fun, 'heady' ending that doesn't have a definite explanation. Just like Total Recall. It's definately going to stick with me for awhile. But I'll just end up giving in and figuring that it doesn't require to be explained. Unless we get some closure from a commentary or something...

I love this movie. Really fantastic all around. I thought the ending was unnecessarily ambiguous to get people to read too much into it. I honestly did not see anything that would point to him in a dream state but I need to rewatch to be sure.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

The shots of the children seem to be the same shots from Cobb's memories, leading to the still a dream theory.

I read an actor commented on the ending by saying "its not what you see, but what you hear". Did that "kick/wake up music" play during the end scene? I can't remember.

That's a damn good point I don't think has been brought up. However, at face value it appears as the exact same scene throughout the film.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

I am waiting until next weekend to catch it. Is IMAX worth $17.50 compared to $11 for the regular showing? I'm a bit perplexed why non-3D is suddenly a $6.50 surcharge here in Seattle.

Thanks.
