the last time I paid 10 bucks to see a movie I knew I wouldn't like was the first Twilight. I got drug with a group of friends and slept the whole way through the midnight showing, when it hit number one, I just felt ashamed for participating.
At least NoES had potential to be good, even if it was far from it. I'd never spend money on Twilight, or something equally horrendous-looking, because I know my money is truly being wasted.

Yeah I don't subscribe to the "I have to see a movie so I know what people are talking about" mentality. I like what I like without having to compare it to movies I don't like. Quality shines through regardless of how awful other movies are.

made 28.6 yesterday. while yes its still a great number (and i'm sure the studio is more then happy) but when you consider that most theaters are showing this on 4 and sometimes 5 screens that number seems low

It's being reported that it is expected to make approximately $198 million from Wednesday to Sunday.

It wont be as disappointing as its following weekends crash through the floor with 60 to 70% fall offs...

Then again, Summit will have made enough money after the next three weeks to piss money away on their other releases until the next Twilight film.

How long after the final Twilight film will it take Summit to fold? They can't open anything else.

$161 million for the five day opening. I actually guessed right in the poll, oddly enough.

We all know $161 million is a lot of money and an excellent opening weekend, but did this fall short of their expectations?

Summit has done OK with their movies, except with "Astro Boy" which was a hugh flop. But their other movies have made money if you add up Dom/Int/DVD/Cable money.

Knowing - Worldwide: $183,593,586 (Production Budget: $50 million)
***Also opened #1 at the Boxoffice, they can open something else other than Twilight***
Letters to Juliet - = Worldwide: (so far) $59,922,332 (Production Budget: $30 million)
Push - Worldwide: $48,858,618 (Production Budget: $38 million)
Never Back Down - Worldwide: $41,627,431 (Production Budget: $20 million)
Astro Boy - Don't have the data, but cost about $100 million, and made only about $20 million)
Remember Me - Worldwide: $55,519,008 (Production Budget: $16 million)
Furry Vengeance - Worldwide: $29,155,487 (Production Budget: $35 million)

Sorority Row - Gross revenue $26,735,797 (Production Budget $12,500,000)
The Hurt Locker - Gross revenue $40,016,144 (Production Budget $15,000,000)
***Won an Oscar, though I did not like the movie***

Twilight has given them alot of cash flow (Well over $500 million in profit after all the movies are done), but they had the right business plan, buy mostly cheap movies and make enough $$$ until one of the movies hit it big. If only I had the cash to take the chances they did.

Summit isn't doing all that badly, they don't make the highest quality flicks but they all seem to be moderately successful genre films.

Plus they'll always have Step Up 3D

Although the Fourth of July weekend seems like a good time for a movie to open, there are so many other activities going on that it detracts from the potential audience somewhat. The Eclipse six day total was $175 million versus $179 million for New Moon (Friday opening) last November. The BOM take on it is that New Moon saturated the market and the goal of the additional chapters is to hold that audience (we all know of series that drop off after the first or second installment). By that standard Eclipse did pretty well.

While I would guess that Summit was hoping for a bit more, it's hard to complain about a number like $175 million (plus another $100 million overseas).

so much money. Oh noz. I think I’m going to be one of those Twilight freaks. I got dragged to Eclipse and I hadn’t seen any of the others or read any or whatever. Now I want to see them all. I’m totally hooked. Ugh. It was really good. I even put a Twilight shirt on the new avatar I made.
