One of my friends on Facebook does that all the time. She also talks about harassing people in the theater. Then she wonders why people on her friends list get pissed at her.

Re: Predict "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" opening 5 day gross

From DHD:

Numbers will be refined in the morning. But I can report now that the 3rd film in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga series of novels is off to a record-breaking start at the North American box office. My sources tell me tonight that Summit Entertainment's ECLIPSE opened to $65 million today which shattered the best-ever $62 million for a Wednesday opening set last summer by Paramount's Transformers 2. That $65M included Eclipse's record-setting $30M from Wednesday 12:01 AM and 3 AM showings at more than 4,000 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. The Twilight saga's 2nd film, New Moon, still holds the largest movie opening day record of $72 million. Eclipse is playing in 4,416 domestic locations, which set another record for the biggest ever release in Hollywood history, surpassing Iron Man 2's 4,380 venues.

Why? I hated the first Twilight film but I feel like a dick if I insult the entire franchise without having seen the majority of it. Anyway, I watched it last night and I will dare to say that it is by far the worst movie I have ever seen since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I actually found myself laughing at how horrible some scenes in the film are. The back and forth over emotional for no apparent reason characters are annoying and only promote suicidal behavior if a relationship fails. Now I can feel free to comment on the series while actually knowing what I'm talking about.

Twilight isn't my kind of movie, nor is it marketed to my demographic - just like many other movies. I simply pass on them and go on about my life.

1.) I didn't pay a cent to see it.

2.) Your just assuming that all I want to do is insult it on an internet forum. Some of my friends like Twilight, some don't, now I feel as though I have informed opinion on the series instead of just assuming it's crap because the majority of males believe that.

3.) Seeing a movie to see how bad it really is and to form a valid opinion on it seems like reason enough for me to see it. If you don't feel the same way, good for you.

I saw Avatar for much of the same reasons. Unfortunately, that one was so bad that it felt like kicking a dead horse to add to the dogpile. So I let it be.

Here is what you said earlier:

I've seen Twilight, but tomorrow I'm going to sit through 2 hours of hell and watch New Moon for the sole reason of actually being able to insult the Twilight franchise
You obviously have more free time than others, and there probably isn't anything wrong with that. I certainly wish i had more free time.

Peace!

a semi good sign that its front loaded as all fuck. while indeed it made 65 in one day. It also meant that had there not been midnight and 3 am showings, it would have only made 35 mil during the entire day. It will be interesting to see if it can stustain the pace its at. If it does, then we can potentially see 180 mil just by saturday, but i somehow doubt it.

Most likely, no. Anyone who couldn't go at 12am or 3am would have probably just gone during the day.

I finally went to go see Knight and Day yesterday and the showtime got replaced last minute by an Eclipse screening.

Yeah, I wrote an e-mail to Regal after getting my money back.

My wife went to see it tonight (Thurs.) She's not a huge fan but her friend is.
She said the theater was packed for the 8pm show, there was a huge line for the 8:30 show and another growing line for the 10:00 show. I'll have to ask her how the crowd behaved.

there was a reference on Ferguson tonight saying that some theaters actually had to turn the sound up louder for the movie, since the screaming girls drown out the dialogue

Re: Predict "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" opening 5 day gross

Thursday's Numbers:
'Eclipse' $25M
'The Last Airbender' $16M
'Toy Story 3' $8M

Eclipse: That could be $110M for 5 days (Thursday - Monday) with a total of $178M for the 6-day July Fouth Holiday since Wednesday.

So I'd guess roughly $160m for the first 5 days.

Shit, that's a big day-to-day drop, even if it is during the week. Anyone else think this'll top off under $300m? Still highly impressive, though.

I thought it would do $75m (Wednesday) to $32m (Thursday) as mentioned in my initial post, a 58% drop, similar to New Moon's day one-to-day two.

Instead, $69m (Wednesday) to $24m (Thursday) is a drop of 65%. Yikes. If it doesn't rebound today, it will not be hitting $300 million.

I had it rebounding at 35%, which in its current gross, would only be $33m for today (my estimate was $43m for Friday). However, Last Airbender and Toy Story 3 could damage it from even crossing $30m.

I once stated on this board that I went to see certain mainstream hits that I knew I wouldn't like simply because I wanted to be part of the conversation about them, to be able to talk about them from an informed position. I got criticized for that. By people who don't understand the simple concept that you can better appreciate the stuff you do like by at least exposing yourself to the stuff you don't like. (Kind of like politics, where your positions are stronger if you at least listen to and try to understand opposing viewpoints.)

I applaud your fortitude and dedication, Blu Man. I would not be able to see all three TWILIGHT films the way you have. I simply don't have the time, energy or inclination anymore. But the goal to do so is an admirable one.

^ I completely agree. That's exactly why I wasted money on the Nightmare on Elm St. remake - so I could have an informed opinion.

It just seems to be defeating the purpose paying to support a piece of garbage. At least that's the way I see it.

the last time I paid 10 bucks to see a movie I knew I wouldn't like was the first Twilight. I got drug with a group of friends and slept the whole way through the midnight showing, when it hit number one, I just felt ashamed for participating.

That's my position - I'll rent a movie that I'm marginally interested in or just to check out the hype, but paying for a ticket supports the movie regardless of if you like it or not. That I'm not willing to do, so I don't pay for movies I know I won't like.

I guess it all just comes down to how someone decides to spend their time and money. I personally would rather spend it watching a movie i think i would enjoy as opposed to spending it watching one i plan to hate just so i can make fun of it.

But everyone is different.
