The trailer is apparently being shipped to theaters in a locked box that can't be opened until Thursday night, so midnight showings of Iron Man 2 will be the first glimpse of the movie, which is rumored to be a Cloverfield sequel.
Regardless of how one feels about Cloverfield, this kind of on-the-sly, really word-of-mouth-based marketing is really cool.

I would love to see a follow-up to Cloverfield, no matter what direction it takes.
For some reason however, I don't think Super 8 will be a Cloverfield prequel/sequel.
Hope I'm wrong.

I hope it is a Cloverfield sequel, I just don't see how a sequel could have been filmed without any word leaking.

Update: Our sources tell us J.J. Abrams is actually directing this time around, although nothing is confirmed. Earlier today news broke about a top secret trailer for a new J.J. Abrams project entitled Super 8, which would premiere in front of Iron Man 2 this coming weekend. No other details were available at the time. An update at Vulture CONFIRMS that Super 8 is in fact a quasi-prequel to the smash-hit viral monster movie Cloverfield!! "Our sources...say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008's Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel)." They continue with the plot details, which sound awesome. "Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there's an alien creature in the frame." OMFG. To put the icing on the cake, this sounds exactly like the Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration announced back on April 28th. Did I say OMFG?! Have your say below.

I'm not as into the idea of a prequel but I enjoy the projects that J.J. is a part of and I loved Cloverfield so I'm excited.

Based on the scant plot details we're privy to...I'm not sure how this is directly connected to Cloverfield.
It sounds interesting and I really hope this is an 'official' prequel. I can't wait to get more details and see this trailer. This is indeed how films should be marketed...with a great sense of wonder.

I'm definitely psyched if its true this is connected to Cloverfield. I absolutely loved the movie & think its just internent-trendy to hate on it, so everyone does. I never followed the buzz or hype around it when it came out & really enjoyed seeing it in the theater.

Cloverfield was a pleasant surprise for me. I thought I would hate it, but I totally bought into the concept from the start, so something related would be great.

I think it might be cool, is the whole movie on Super 8 or is it just a movie about a Alien that someone sees on a Super 8 film and then it attacks ala Signs
