Trading Places is my favorite of his. He was also good in Driving Miss Daisy.

I voted for TP because it's the film that he was best in. He didn't really contribute as much in Ghostbusters.

My favorite SNL alum. "Jane, you ignorant misguided slut."

Y U MAKE ME CHOOSE?!

Photo finish between The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, and Ghostbusters. I voted Blues by a hair.

Teenage me would have said Ghostbusters but old decrepit me says Blues Brothers.

Blues Brothers
Ghostbusters
Dragnet
Spies Like Us
Trading Places

That is how I would rank my favorites from the list.

When I watch Blues Brothers it amazes me that Aykroyd and Belushi were able to do any of that with straight faces. I wonder how many takes they would average per scene?

I went with Spies Like Us but Ghostbusters is probably the better movie over all but more due to Bill Murray.

The horrible part about this thread is that it's making me wonder WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO DAN AYKROYD IN THE 1990s?!?!

I mean, NOTHING BUT TROUBLE was terrible, but it's not like he couldn't overcome it.

I loved that movie when I was a kid. I'm terrified to revisit it as an adult.

Anyway, he didn't do too horribly for himself in the 90s. He had My Girl, Sneakers, Coneheads, My Fellow Americans, Grosse Pointe Blank, and Antz. Nothing too phenomenal, but he can hold his head higher than Chevy Chase.

I hate that I had to choose one. Just one.

Chose Ghostbusters, but only by a smidge. Blues Brothers is a oh so close 2nd.

Re: the Best DAN AYKROYD film of the 1980s?

I voted The Blues Brothers. It's so very different from other comedies, filled with great individual moments, and its car chase third act is unparallelled.

We're having an event for Aykroyd at my cinema later this month, which I had to make a trailer for, which meant rewatching a lot of his old films (oh, such a hard life). I'm surprised how often Dan Aykroyd is the straight guy in his most classic films. In Blues, Belushi gets the lion's share of the best lines, and Ghostbusters is really the Bill Murray show. Furthermore, it's sad watching him alongside so many comedians who aren't with us anymore.

SHAMELESS PLUG (not that this event hasn't been announced for ages already but whatever):

Went with Trading Places because it is a classic but I also absolutely love Neighbors.

No love for Twilight Zone, huh. "Do you want to see something really scary?" Always loved that line.

Anyway, voted Ghostbusters.
