Tough but went for Blues Brothers over Ghostbusters. Better performance on his part. Ghostbusters seemed more "Murray-centric" in my opinion.

While Temple of Doom is my favorite overall, I don't really consider that an Aykroyd movie because of one cameo. If you count that you might as well count Airplane!. So my vote is for Trading Places, with Ghostbusters a close second and The Great Outdoors (a personal favorite) rounding out the top three just a bit after that.

My Stepmother is an Alien solely because of the homage to The Man Who Came to Dinner. Perhaps I'm abusing my vote but oh well.

Had to go with Ghostbusters as it is one of my all time favorite movies.

Close seconds would be Trading Places, Great Outdoors and Blues Brothers.

Also one of the few people I know that enjoyed Ghostbusters 2 as well.

I went with Ghostbusters. I like several of these movies, but GB wins out in the end.

2 people have said The Dark Knight. What's up with that? I don't get it.

My Top 5:
The Blues Brothers (1980)
Ghostbusters (1984)
The Great Outdoors (1988)
Trading Places (1983)
Caddyshack II (1988) (actually got to see this one of the big screen with the free tickets my mom got for it)

1. Ghostbusters
2. Trading Places
3. The Blues Bros.

All 3 are great, but I can still sit down and enjoy Ghostbusters and Trading Places more easily more than I can The Blues Brothers.

I seem to remember liking Neighbors, but it's been so long I cannot entirely recall it enough to know if it would go into the 4 slot, but considering the other choices, probably.

TEMPLE OF DOOM and GHOSTBUSTERS came out in the same year.
And wasn't TEMPLE OF DOOM the box-office hit of 1984?
So how can it be losing bad in this poll?
DVDTALK polls almost never seem to match the mainstream.

Grosse Point Blank.

I went with Ghostbusters but like so many others, I was really torn between other movies.

Ghostbusters is one of the best comedies of all-time, IMO Trading Places and Great Outdoors are very funny movies.

I still think Blues Brothers was overrated, even though I was huge fan of Belushi and Akroyd. And Ghostbusters II sucks big time!

I think most of us think that Temple of Doom shouldn't even be in the poll.

Ghostbusters 2 is better than Ghostbusters. Funnier, better villain. The fact that everyone doesn't accept this as fact reeks of conspiracy to me.

GB 2 was a hit, but I remember the majority moviegoers didn't like it and it didn't spawn another movie.

I went with The Blues Brothers because, well - it's The Blues Brothers! The greatest musical comedy action movie of all time!!!

As for the rest I'd rate Akroyd's performance in Trading Places higher than the one in Ghostbusters, and put the movies themselves about even (they're both great).

Re: the Best DAN AYKROYD film of the 1980s?

I think Dan Aykroyd is probably not the greatest actor when compared to Bill Murray or Chevy Chase, but it's all based on the material more so than an actor's abilities. Aykroyd, luckily, turned in some good scripts ("Ghostbusters") and made some intelligent decisions on which films to be in ("Trading Places") that his position in Hollywood is secure.

I haven't met many celebrities, but he was easily the coolest. That's a guy who truly appreciates his fans.
