Since he is Swedish, I take the Stellan Skarsgard news as a good sign that they aren't going too far in "Americanizing" it for Fincher's version.
And it looks like Erika Berger has also been cast:
And it looks like Erika Berger has also been cast:
According to Deadline, Robin Wright is on board to play Erika Berger, the no-nonsense editor of the magazine Millennium who is also the occasional lover of the magazine's star reporter, Mikael Blomkvist (the lead character of the series, to be played by Daniel Craig). In the books Berger is described as a tough woman who's also incredibly attractive and capable of carrying on a relationship with both her husband and Blomkvist, all while shepherding one of Sweden's best magazines. She's pretty much a superhuman character, and there aren't many actresses other than Wright who would be capable of the part.

Damn, now I gotta see the original based on the reviews here.

Given the part she's playing is a "blink and you'll miss it", unless Fincher beefs up the role, I can't see where any actress playing her would be any great shakes. The character in the Swedish version is only in it for just a few minutes here and there.

Yeah, but that's in the Swedish film and I doubt Fincher is basing his film off of that. If he goes by the book, she has a big role and it's even bigger in the two sequels.

Definitely, it was one of many reasons one the Blomkvist character was so boring & one-dimensional in the film, which is the exact opposite of the charismatic guy that pretty much bangs every main female character in the books.

Looks like the role of Lisbeth has gone to Rooney Mara:

^ Seems like a decent choice and fits with Fincher's tendency to use actors he's worked with before. I see another fairly recent article on the same site stating that Fincher passed over Carey Mulligan for the role because she wasn't gritty enough, and I'd have to agree. Same goes for Natalie Portman.
But after watching The Runaways the other day, I think Kristen Stewart might actually not have made a bad Lisbeth. The problem is she has no chemistry with anyone.

^ Can't get Hulu in Canada, but I'll have to assume that's a video of "Natalie Raps". Well played

just saw the original and absolutely loved it. more cookie cutter ending then i was expecting, but terrific performances and tense, gritty story that i didn't predict. very well done.

I saw The Girl Who Played With Fire the other week and didn't think it was as big of a step down from the first one that people were saying, although then again I didn't hold the first movie in such high regard. I know people had mentioned lower production values and what not, but I didn't really notice anything to that effect. My complaint would be the same as the first movie, where a lot of characters and smaller plot lines get eliminated to fit in the time constraints of the movie and to keep it moving along. The elimination of pretty much all of the police characters was a disappointment, but Niedermann and Zalachenko and the main plot were all well done.

As an insider told me, "They're originally meeting her expecting this hard-ass on a Harley wearing leather. But she's nothing like Lisbeth. They're shocked to find this unbelievably beautiful and sexy fresh-faced actress with a wonderful sense of humor. So now that's opening doors for her. They go into the meeting to ask, 'Do I have a villain? And they leave saying, 'Do I have a great female lead?'"

Rooney Mara was by far my least favorite thing about this year's Elm Street remake, which says a lot since it wasn't *that* great of a movie to begin with.

I have to agree. I hope Fincher can do something with her. I guess we'll find out when the Social Network comes out if she's any better at acting than we thought.

I don't think that was really her fault, Elm Street 2010 was an unmitigated disaster.
