I like this one even more I think. I have a feeling if this guy was in the room with Mel a lean forward would have had him wetting himself too.

Seems like every second rate nobody is trying to 'go for the Pulitzer' and get some attention for themselves when they get a chance to interview Mel. What a douchebag this clown is too.

Mel Gibson rocks!
Sam is still bitching about what happend, he played this clip this morning and upset because Mel scared his little friend.

He knew what Mel meant, he may have been a bit confused by the way Mel put it, but the reporter flat out said that he was trying to be impartial when Mel called him out. Only days later did the reporter act like he had no idea what "having a dog in this fight" meant just because he backed down like a little bitch when Gibson called him on it.

Very Possible, either way the "reporter" is a punk ass.

Unless the publicists told the press not to ask about that incident, it's still a little strange that Mel plays dumb each and every time this is asked. On the flip side, bringing it up as the focus of the interview is also annoying. It's not like Mel disappeared off the face of the Earth during the last few years.

Re: Mel Gibson is a jackass

Here in Chicago the reporter is on WGN radio.
He's a cool guy. I would say the interviewer wanted to know and went about asking it in a bad way.
And as for Mel he's also a cool guy when he's not drinking and he looked like he just woke up and took the whole interview in a bad way.
Is this like Katie Couric and Sara Palin?
No.

Mel is being a bit of a douche about halfway through pretending like he doesn't know what the reporter is referring to. I mean really, what else could he be talking about? He did regain composure though and the 'asshole' bit was awesome.

I am of the opinion that once you hit the age of 30, the word "dude" should not be in your vocabulary. I poke fun at some of my 30+ year old co-workers for using "dude". Gibson is 54... I think it's time he moves on.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but then again I live in southern california so it seems fairly normal.

I guess it's an unpopular opinion around here, but I think that when you go on a drunken anti-semitic tirade, you should expect to get asked about it next time you do publicity for a movie. Even if it's four years later. Take your medicine like a man, Mel.

Re: Mel Gibson is a jackass

I find it quite amusing when Mel does his "what exactly are you talking about" spiel, and the interviewers start to sputter, probably realizing that wasn't the best idea.

Personally, I'm glad people don't bring up shit I did 4 years ago.

What about other bad behavior? Should it be brought up 4 years later when people are promoting a movie?

I mean, I agree that it's silly for him to disparage a group of people and then be like, "What exactly are you referring to?"

I'm just curious to know if all celebrities who get in trouble are asked about it 4 years later in the same manner.

Re: Mel Gibson is a jackass

Did they do the same thing with Robert Downey Jr.? I'm assuming that Downey has a better sense of humor than Gibson anyway. Mel Gibson seems pretty intimidating...

I don't know if they are, but I see no problem with it if they are. If you're out there selling your personality and your persona -- and that's what big-name stars are doing -- then you've got to answer for it when you do shit like this. Hugh Grant had to answer for it when he picked up a hooker. Eddie Murphy had to answer for it when he picked up a tranny hooker. Russell Crowe had to answer for it when he threw a phone at a hotel worker. And Mel Gibson has to answer for this. If he doesn't like it, he should have stayed in whatever hole he's been hiding in since the incident.

Apart from that, he's handling it like a grade-a asshole with his whole "What are you talking about" staredown routine followed by the "I've decided that I already apologized enough so you're not allowed to bring it up again" routine.

I think that anyone defending Mel Gibson, paying to see his movies, or supporting the bigot in any way should be ashamed of him/herself. Gibson is a piece of garbage and should be treated as such.

I'm defending Mel. Since when did being drunk become "truth serum"? If that was the case then why is it rape when you have sex with a woman when she's drunk? Then using the same measure that Mel meant what what he said while drunk. Then a woman who has sex while drunk really wanted sex even though when she wakes up and cries rape. People act stupid when drunk. Now on the other hand if you just want to dump on Mel because he made the movie THE PASSION that I would understand. Based on the times we live in that anything Jesus is bad for some.

Well, Mel is a unique case. When most celebs have their 'incident' it plays out over the course of a few months and fades away in favor of the next celeb scandal. Since Gibson has largely been out of the limelight for four years (even if he's been behind the camera) reporters never got their due diligence on his situation since he largely hasn't done interviews since it happened. Of course they are going to ask about it and I don't see why they shouldn't as long it's done with a level of respect. The problem is that the two reporters in this thread were assholes about it.

His situation is more akin to Michael Richards than Hugh Grant or Eddie Murphy. Michael Richards has been out of the spotlight since his racial tirade but I can guarantee he will get the same treatment by reporters, for the first real project he does that he has to promote, like Gibson.

Playing dumb doesn't cut it either.
