While I'm not pleased by a reboot. It actually looks a lot better production design wise. Hated Raimi's sets. They always looked fake. Also I favor this film's color palette more. And I hope the female love interest isn't a dumbd bitch like MJ was. Gwen actually seems a lot smarter than MJ for sure. Granted...she was smarter in the comics too.

The lead actor. The babe is not a babe. The villian doesn't look good.

Emma Stone is much more of a babe than Kristen Dunst could ever hope to be.

Jesus H Christ, there is just no pleasing some people. Some people are just too fucking stubborn to ever admit they were wrong. They judged the book by the cover and said it was a bad movie before they had even seen it, and now that the reviews are starting to come out instead of admitting they were wrong they instead say that's its the reviewers who don't know what they are talking about.

Well duh there are only 11 reviews right now because it hasn't officially been released yet and only a handful of people in the UK have seen it. It also isn't just critics that are giving it favorable reviews. Over on the CBR forums, a few people there have seen it and most of them liked it.

Personally I'd rather see it and determine if it's good myself rather than rely on internet word-of-bitch.

The internet told me to hate the Raimi movies, and I don't.

Well yeah of course. That isn't to say that critics are bad reviewers. They just have different tastes than you. So find a critic that has the same tastes as you.

What really gets my goat is when people judge a movie to be bad before they have ever even seen it. Sure there are things about this movie that have me worried, but I am not trashing it before I give it a chance and see it for myself. I am *gasp* keeping an open mind.

And I like the Star Wars prequels... sure they aren't anywhere near the same league as the original trilogy but they still entertain me despite all their faults.

For the record, I've tried to say this LOOKS like a bad movie. What I could glean from the trailers as far a the plot goes and the effects looked awful.

I'll still see it and I hope the marketing has just done a disservice to the movie.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I've eased up on my disdain for this movie a bit I guess. The first trailer and early footage of it looked like it was going to be shit but I've got a bit more hope for it now. I still don't like what I've seen thus far of Garfield as Peter/Spidey but I'm willing to give it a chance. The big thing for me is I still think Lizard looks like crap and some of the CGI looks kind of shoddy. On top of that I recently rewatched the first two Raimi Spider-Man films and still don't think a reboot was really needed.

That may be..but as long as you know that they're not as great as they are. They're good but still flawed. Entertainment doesn't equate to quality.

i like them fine..but they're flawed.

I've never found a critic that has similar tastes because I've never looked for one and never will. Film critics' opinions and rankings of movies have never meant anything to me personally at all, but that's me. They carry a lot of weight with others (which is why I bothered to mention the THR review) but personally, never have, never will.

I didn't say anything about them being great, or being flawed. Also it sounds precisely like you're doing exactly what I said: The internet told me to hate the Raimi movies. If you're saying as long as I know they aren't great, then....well what if I did think they were great? Does it matter? Do I have to unplug my ethernet cable and never return for fear of internet banishment? I don't get it. I'm kidding, but still I don't agree with this idea of how people are seemingly supposed to like or supposed to dislike specific movies and other forms of entertainment.

I've never thought of them as great or terrible, no extremes. I don't have many issues with them aside from the conveniences in Spider-Man 3 about the old butler coming clean about what he knew at the last possible moment to give Harry his change of heart, and the shoehorning-in of Sandman into Ben Parker's killing. Common complaints many have had about it. The dancing stuff which everyone (at least on the internet, don't know about 'real life') seems to despise was something I still have a lot of fun with. It's very funny to me, and not embarrassingly funny either. I got a kick out of it.

They're big, flashy, exciting, colorful and I like the balance between that and the wholesome nature of Peter and his family. That's what I like about them most. That's why I had no interest in this reboot, because I felt like the general audience: Why are they doing that instead of just making a fourth?

Of course I understand why, but that's what I feel about this movie: It's unnecessary, much like how some people....feel about 3D ;)

I mostly agree and really thought the Raimi movies weren't bad either. I don't really get the sudden backlash against them other than that more super hero movies have come along since and have been better. However for what they are I still think Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 aren't bad. Spider-Man 3 had it's moments too but was definitely the weak link of the trilogy.

"I reiterate: it would have to be an epic crash and burn for you to declare it a failure. Even the positive reviews support what a lot of us are saying: it's a solid, middle-of-the-road Spider-Man flick with a good cast. WOW. Surely that was worth scrapping an entire film series, treating the paying customers like memory-deficient idiots, rehashing a done-to-death story and setting a crappy precedent for future franchises. It's not even ABOUT "oh you Raimi fanboys need to get over it", it's about THIS ENTIRE FILM being the most cynical cashgrab in recent memory, and a cadre of online nerds suddenly being willing to ignore such studio dickishness because it features a character they like."

Great post.

Great post.

What's the post referring to? The new film or Spider-Man 3?

I get the "this entire film" is about the new one, but the rest sounds like it's Spider-Man 3 being talked about as not being a 'crash and burn' failure.

I wouldn't know. I don't continuously come into random threads just to shit on and bitch about movies I haven't seen.
