Yeah, that rumor was based on the action figure line they showed for the movie. It could happen, but action figures aren't always a good judge for the plot. They also showed a Lizardmobile toy, and I am 99.9999999% sure that won't actually appear in the movie.

No. There was another lizard. A Lizard clone of sorts. Bigger and more savage. This was during Ben Reilly's time. Talking about Stegron I really like that Savage Land story in Sensational Spider-Man in '96 w/ Kazar was fun.

There's some good stuff, I'd say they made Spider-Man a bit more inventive in his actions...just cuz it was Reilly though. I did like some stuff. I was a kid in that time so..the clone saga hate hadn't matured yet. I just kept buying comics to follow on wtf was going on. Turns out..it was a waste of money.

Comic book nerds thinking anything old is good, and new is bad
And that's a pretty stupid comment, given you're only 3 years older then I. For what its worth, I think the character looks ugly. Other artwork of his just looks fine to me.

Doesn't that really apply to most people, not just comic nerds? Most people are tainted by rose-colored nostalgia glasses and only remember the good things from the past but not the bad.
It was just a joke. I knew you weren't actually a kid. I was just making fun of kids who pick up a Stan Lee comic today and are disgusted by it.

Stegron was bad ass!
Maybe you're thinking about The Iguana who fought Spider-Man in the late 70s.

An accident that occurred while Dr. Curt Connors was experimenting with a bio-enervator machine upon an ordinary iguana endowed the iguana with part of Connors' lifeforce and memories, as well as the personality and powers of Connors' alter-ego, the Lizard. The Iguana became a human-sized semi-humanoid reptile with superhuman strength, hypnotic powers, and the ability to mentally control other reptiles. The Iguana hypnotized Connors to make him forget what happened. The Iguana would stalk the night, but returned to its normal form during the day and stayed in its cage.[1]
On a field trip with some Empire State University students, the Iguana caused Connors to take it into a darkened reptile house and assumed its humanoid form.[2] The Iguana encountered Spider-Man but fled when exposed to blinding light. Since Connors had regained his memories, the Iguana attempted to hold Connors' family hostage to keep Connors from destroying him.[1] Spider-Man intercepted the Iguana before he could capture Connors' family, as well as Connors who had taken on his Lizard form. However, the Lizard and the Iguana both decided that Spider-Man was a mutual enemy, and tried to destroy him. Spider-Man had retrieved the enervator device and used it on them. Connors reverted to human form, but the Iguana seemed to explode. When last seen, the Iguana had apparently been turned back into a normal iguana.

Nope.

Not the image I wanted but yeah..this lizard.

Not the image I wanted but yeah..this lizard.
Shortly after Connors' apparent death in quicksand during the Lizard's battle with Spider-Man and Warrant, a huge bestial Lizard appeared.[22] Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) realized that not only had the Lizard survived, but this new monstrous transformation seemed to be permanent and the personality of Curt Connors appeared completely lost. However, when this savage mindless Lizard later unexpectedly encountered Dr. Connors himself, Curt became the true Lizard once again and saved his family by killing the "Lizard-clone". It was revealed that the Lizard-clone was a scientific accident resulting from an experimental formula being tested on a piece of the original Lizard's tail, which had then grown into a fully formed second creature.[23]

Not only did I lose interest in Spider-Man but Marvel comics altogether. The Clone Saga coincided with the Onslaught deal, which turned the entire Marvel Universe on its head and made it impossible to follow. This was about the time I was in my early days of college and got heavy into Image titles and Spawn, that phase passed as well.

I never even read that comic, but that was my first guess actually since it looks exactly like him and I knew it was Ben Reilly in the Spidey suit.

I always found it hilariously ironic that as Onslaught was killing off half the Marvel universe, half the Marvel readership quit buying.

There was a comic one time where Jor-El sent a probe to Earth when he was trying to find a new home planet for Kal-El and the probe encountered Thomas Wayne. That's right. Jor-El and Thomas Wayne actually met and talked. It was a crappy comic and thankfully it was never brought up again in any other comic.

Not this about the organic webshooters again... the pro-mechanical webshooter rabble lost that argument, hard, ten years ago; don't tell me it still stings.
