If they had taken out the emo/hipster Peter montage with the jazzy Spider-man theme, the song and dance number in the club, the song and dance number while Harry and Mary Jane are making omelettes, the entire Gwen Stacy sub-plot that went nowhere (they could keep the action scene and just remove dialogue just to make it seem like she's some random girl and she looks like Gwen as fan service), the children during the final action sequence, the scenes where the Sandman talks to his family, and the incredibly stupid scene where Harry's butler reveals that he knew all along that his father was responsible for his own death and Spider-man is innocent, the movie would have been much stronger. You don't need to add extra Venom scenes or anything like that. The movie is pretty full as it is.

I think the preview's pretty great. I didn't hate the Raimi movies...and I don't see part 3 as some abomination, similar to X3, it's just a weaker entry to what came before. I liked the colors, music, overall vibe... but the acting and dialogue was just so bad.... you had to look at it as a cartoon to buy any of it. If they can dial that in, while retaining the fun aspects... I guess that's what I'm looking for in a Spidey flick.

I would add recasting Venom with ANYONE as Topher Grace was an abomination as Venom. This trailer blows. Even gave me a headache watching it. As a spidey fan, I'm really pissed at this reboot. I had no problem with Toby and the rest of the cast. They stayed true to the comic, and there was so many other villian stories that could be milked instead of watching the origin story all over again.
The trailer is Spider-Man by way of Twilight and MTV. I hope that this movie doesn't break Spider-Man like Batman and Robin broke Batman.

Topher as Venom didn't bother me, but I was never a big Spider-man comic book fan.
I liked the first half of Spider-man 1 (hated it once it became him vs. Green Goblin who was incredibly uninteresting) and thought Spider-man 2 was great. 3 was terrible.

Speaking of the incessant rebooting, I just read that WB has already announced that after The Dark Knight Rises, they're gonna reboot Batman again.... sigh.

i'm wondering if that is out of context. only in the sense that it will obviously be new actors/director in the parts and that is being considered a "reboot." my guess is they just build on the universe that nolan has built. it's just too good to abandon that.

^ That's what they've said, which is what leads me to believe that with Bale out and this universe continuing, Wayne may end up a cripple after all.

aside from the ending of the trailer where the viewer get's Spidey's perspective of leaping and jumping around the buildings in 3D no less - it really didn't impress me as I had hoped

I thought Topher was great as Eddie Brock/Venom. Sure he wasn't buff like Venom is supposed to be, but he did pretty good with what he had to work with, which was nothing.

WHAT!? Are you fucking kidding me? This is out of control. First the way too soon "Superman" and "Spider-Man" reboots, now this? Hollywood just keeps sinking creatively lower and lower.

That's why I support Marvel's efforts in making a linked cinematic universe; they wouldn't be putting so much effort in interconnecting the films just to reboot them 5 years later.

Well the Batman reboot is at the behest of Christopher Nolan, from what has been rumoured. Apparently he's adamant that TDKR will be a definitive conclusion to his Batman trilogy with no opening for further sequels.

Apparently the dude who plays the villain in this flick is a real dbag or this is just a publicity stunt

Everyone who complained about "emo" Peter Parker in Spiderman3, you were wrong, this is emo Spiderman!
Seriously, I like this cast, but every single thing about this looks wrong; wrong tone, wrong plot, unnecessary re-boot, another origin, too dark, etc, etc. It's all wrong for Spiderman/Parker, who as a character has gone through some serious shit, but is never dark nor brooding. And that POV segment looked worse than a video game.
I guess I'm the wrong audience for this, as it seems they're targeting the Twilight crowd. Further, in the press, the director of this new one is deriding the Rami films as if they're missteps or something. SP2 is one of the best superhero movies of them all, and while 3 head it's issues, it's not like it's Superman 4. To pretend the old ones weren't that hot, just to justify his shitty new take on it is pure bullshit.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem except that they feel the need to retell the origin. I can understand soft rebooting the character to have him in high school again and involved with Gwen Stacy rather than Mary Jane, but the first Maguire Spider-Man movie was that long ago. I don't think they needed to really retell the origin story. Maybe that's how they felt it was best to reintroduce Peter as a teenager, but I just have a feeling it's going to be deja vu and feel like wasted screen time.
