OK, reading this more closely, I'm now interested purely for the ridiculousness of it. I hope Gruetert makes Saw VII into a piece of shit (well, rather, does it intentionally anyway) just to fuck with Lionsgate.

It might end up shit, but it certainly won't be done purposefully. He won't want to sabotage his own career.

Wow -- Greutert isn't holding back. He's letting everyone know he is NOT happy about this. From his blog:
I just had the task of telling my 83 year old mother that no, I知 not going to be allowed to direct the movie we were all so excited about when my family last got together, and that I知 being forced to leave town before getting a chance to see her again. Yes, I値l be filming people getting tortured YET AGAIN. So we値l have to put off me making a film she can actually watch for another year.
I知 not making this shit up.

I think Greutert should wipe his tears away and suck it up. . It's Hollywood - people get fucked over, daily! At least he still gets to direct a movie.
The one who should be PISSED is Hackl.

And by the way, it's already been revealed that Hackl is still getting to direct another movie, which will be announced shortly. So him and Greutert are in the exact same boat. Neither is directing the movie they want to direct. It is a rather wacky situation. LionsGate knows if they don't place Hackl on another film, Paramount could just put HIM on Paranormal Activity 2, which would be hilarious if it happened, but it won't.

Greutert needs to shut the fuck up and do his job. What, was PA2 some dream project? Instead of making another Blair Witch 2, you get to finish off one of the most successful horror franchises of the last decade. Fuck you and your whining ass.

After a few days where the site was completely blank, Kevin made an update at his website (www.kevingreutert.com) and he seems more upbeat.
Just re-watched Saw VI and liked it more than I did when it was in theaters. I may have revised my opinion that IV is the best of the sequels. Interested to see what happens.

lmao I didn't look him up, but thought others might know him. I did think it was strange that Oren didn't list some of his other credits, but now I know why.

I dunno. I mean, The Door in the Floor? Don't you think the director of a sexual drama with Kim Basinger and Jeff Bridges must have had some sort of crazy, off-the-wall pitch for them to choose him over a director that has any experience in horror? I think it's still a bold choice, even if I'd have been more interested in De Palma.
At least it's not Goldsman.

Eek. This movie is going to have to do something interesting for me to even show the slightest of interest. I never did watch Blair Witch 2, even though I really enjoyed the first.
I'll probably never watch Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity again. When I revisit a movie, it usually needs to have a certain asthetic to make me feel something over and over. BW and PA were one time deals.

Say what you will about Blair Witch 2, at least Artisan got someone who had shown some talent up to that point. While Joe Berlinger may never return back to the realm of fictional storytelling, especially after claiming the terrible experience he had working on the sequel and how he lost control of the film due to the studio heads; Artisan got someone who was a smart choice for that project.
Greutert was a smart choice. He was not only apart of the biggest horror franchise of the past decade, he also rejuvenated said franchise after what most fans thought were two weak entries. Some of the other directors getting their names thrown into the mix after Greutert was pulled off were smart choices as well, as they've been in the genre before. Williams is not a smart choice.
