Re: Weekend Box Office: Martin Luther King Jr Holiday

1.6 billion worldwide and pretty much guaranteed to beat Titanic. With 30 percent drops it should make roughly 130 more domestically and considering its doing about twice as much internationally it should make another 260 which puts it at just under 2 billion with a very good likelihood of breaking it. Who would have thought Avatar could make 2 billion dollars.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Martin Luther King Jr Holiday

With Avatar at $490 million now, it seems likely that it will sink Titanic's $600 million record on the all-time unadjusted domestic box office. It has little competition going against it, so if it has the legs that Titanic had it has a small chance at $650-700 million, and maybe a chance at 2 billion international.

Redonkolus, less than 20% drop on its 5th weekend. That is idiotic. Might get 50 million for the 4 day..and hit 500 million by tomorrow. Amazing.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Martin Luther King Jr Holiday

It's been doing about $5 million on the weekdays I believe, so with Monday being a holiday, I could see it doing another $9 million to hit $500 million domestically by the end of the day tomorrow.

Damn. Not it isn't a question of IF it will beat Titanic anymore, it is a question of WHEN.

It'll pass The Dark Knight by the end of January and then Titanic about another three weeks after that. Damn impressive.

It will definitely pass TDK next weekend. That is pretty much 100% sure.

It will overtake Titanic by the end of February as well, just in time before Alice in Wonderland takes over 3D screens.

615 Million Domestic total

2.1 Billion worldwide total

That is about where I expect it to finish.

Is Avatar the first movie since the Sixth Sense to have 5 consecutive #1 weekends?

I disagree. Box office numbers only care about how much the movie made, not why the movie made what it did. Adjustment for inflation is an accurate way to directly compare how many people saw the movie in the theater. It's pretty much the same as counting ticket sales rather than revenue. Could the internet, cable, DVD, and all the other stuff you named somehow affect box office? Sure, they probably do. But that's not what box office numbers are measuring.

Should be there in 3 or 4 weeks. No way at this point that it will not beat Titanic

Avatar can seriously be knocking on 700M's door when it's all said and done.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Martin Luther King Jr Holiday

The biggest movie on MLK 4-day weekend is Cloverfield with $46.1 mil, Avatar is going to beat that in it's 5th weekend.
