And what does his performance do to the film, or specifically to the character of Charlie Bodell, that is so terrible?

I think the way he acted makes the viewer know how much of a dweeb Bodell is, showing his superficial side in comparison to Turner's heartfelt characterization of Peggy Sue.

I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It's nowhere near the worst Nic Cage movie, nor is it a bad way to spend a few hours. B-

Perfectly mediocre SyFy Channel material. Me (***): http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/47482...-of-the-witch/

Orndorf disagrees (**): http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/47480...-of-the-witch/

So is this film pretty much in the ARMY OF DARKNESS vein? Because if so, I'm in!

Kinda. Army of Darkness had a campy vibe to it, while this one played it more straight.

This movie looks great to me, the only thing that ruins it is Cage. The guy is the worst.

Ever since Knowing got treated like shit, I don't care what people say about Nic Cage movies. I'll watch 'em.

Re: Season of the Witch (2010) -Nicolas Cage

Watched this last night, and I totally agree with E. Honda's assessment. (Nice caps, btw!)

The film is ridiculous, but Cage & Perlman seem like they're in on the joke, so it doesn't feel quite so stuffy, more tongue-in-cheek.

The story wasn't bad. I liked the ambiguity at firstof whether or not the girl really was a witch.

It's got Christopher Lee! Even though his role is very brief, and they even cut that down. Luckily, the BD had an extra scene with him.

It's bad, but it's awesomely bad.

Re: Season of the Witch (2010) -Nicolas Cage

Not a great flick, but not awful. There's some fun banter between Cage and sidekick Perlman, two of the butt ugliest guys in Hollywood, and a few creepy bits along the way. I think they needed a few more guys in the entourage for witch fodder though. Certainly better than Drive Angry.
Christopher Lee was unrecognizable because he was disfigured with the plague, but you could still tell his voice.
