The Walking Dead panel would be fantastic to see. I could take or leave the rest. I do hope we get a proper Doctor Who panel this year, seeing as how we've got a new show runner, new Doctor, and new companion.

BJacks 07-09-10 01:21 PM

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett also have a RiffTrax panel Friday evening.

I typically hate the smaller rooms. So having Walking Dead in the 6BCF room just.. ugh.

Well, here's hoping I make it in for Tron.

People go for different reasons. It covers a WIDE gamut of media: movies, TV, gaming...oh, and comics. I enjoy going to the studio panels and seeing scenes/trailers that no one else has seen. Or listening to some of my fav directors talking about a movie or their thoughts on the industry. 2 years ago Zack Snyder brought the Owl Ship prop from the "Watchmen" movie so you could actually climb inside. One of my highlights last year was seeing John Lassiter interview Hayao Miyazaki. And the roundtable with James Cameron and Peter Jackson.

Rather than reading about Con through the website or wiki, you might get a better flavor of the event though the many YouTube videos.

Rookie -ohbfrank-

Just kidding :D I'm thinking 3am but the first panel isn't until 11:45. That's a long time. I'm hoping they might fill in that time with something... along with the gap from 2:30 to 4:00.

Sunday's program is up. I didn't notice they moved the Futurama to Saturday, those fuckers. There's almost nothing I want to see on Sunday, the only day I'm going to be there this year. I'll definitely go to the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia panel, though.

This'll be my first time heading out for the SDCC, so my dumb question: I wanna catch the Scott Pilgrim panel at Hall H on Thursday at 6 PM. How early do I need to line up? Wee-hours-of-the-morning-early, or are the weekday panels less psychotic?

Supermallet 07-11-10 03:14 PM

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

A lot of people spend all day in Hall H. I've found Thursday isn't quite as hectic as Friday/Saturday, but if it's something you really want to see, you'll probably want to sit through at least the prior 2 panels.

This is why I was at the New Moon panel. I was waiting for Avatar! I swear! ;)

You going to be around for all four days, Adam?

Adam Tyner 07-11-10 03:18 PM

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

Yup, I'm there the whole time.

Sweet! We should meet up on Sunday. Browse the floor or something, since there's fuck all happening for panels.

No Doctor Who panel this year?

:(

Guess I wander around aimlessly on Saturday.

Re: Comicon 2010: July 21-25

Seems strange not to have a Doctor Who panel. People in America would like to have a chance to interact with the new cast and crew.

With Starz having picked up Torchwood, hopefully we get a panel for that next year.

I don't know how people decide what to go for (panel-wise), or be resigned to just staying in one hall for the entire day. I hate being confined for long periods of time when it comes to conventions, so I wonder if I should just never go for fear of thinking it's a big waste of time. Or I could avoid the TV/movie stuff and just mill around the rest of the convention comic-wise, etc. I think I'd just be paralyzed by the thought of missing out when I'm in one venue when something else just as equally interesting is going on at the same time.

Then your best bet is to go on a Sunday. Sundays are pretty slow. Everything is winding down, there aren't many big panels and deals can be had on the floor when vendors want to get rid of things to take back. And the crowds thin out considerably.

If you just want to get into the panel, then do as Supr said. But if you want a seat close to the stage, then the earlier the better. As panels end, you can rush (along with everyone else) to snag a closer seat.

You look through the schedule, decide on which things you want to see the most, and work your schedule around that. If the thing you REALLY want to see is midday in Hall H, and it's really popular (or before something really popular), you might have to sit in there all day. You'll never be able to see everything, but many panels repeat year after year, so if you don't see it one year, you can see it the next.

Can we get the OP to update the first post with meet information if we can get an Otter get-together organized?
