Comicon 2010: July 21-25
From the "Are your Fracking kidding me" department, if you had any plans to attend Preview Night at Comicon 2010, and haven't already bought your 4-day pass, you are too late.

Yep, the Preview Night option sold out last week. Got my pass during Con so I'm good to go.
Some people are upset that there was no indicator (bar graph) showing how close it was to selling out. They're right, in a way. But I always tell peeps to buy their pass as soon as possible to avert something like this happening.
I have an interesting situation for 2010. I might not even be living in San Diego next year. I have a new girlfriend who lives in Kansas City and things are getting serious. If I'm out there, I'll be looking for hotel rooms just like everyone else who's out-of-town.
My best friend, who's been going to Comic-Con for 30 years, recently was laid off and didn't get his pass. Right now he's thinking he might not go next year. I know he'll change his tune once he gets a job. But overall, it's a strange feeling not to be totally excited about Comic-Con.

I was a little annoyed since I hadn't picked up my ticket yet, but then I realized that preview night with or without the crowds is still a pain in the ass (or at least that's what I'm telling myself). We can use Wednesday night to rest up for the rest of the convention.

From what I heard from someone who works for CCI, the majority of Preview Night went to professionals. He gave me some numbers but I'll have to re-ask because they sounded way high.

Actually, if 2010 is anything like 2009, passes that include Preview Night might become available from CCI. I suspect a lot of people bought passes even though they don't know if they're going. They may then be asking for refunds, thus freeing up passes.
No guarantees but worth a shot if you MUST go.

I don't even know if I'm going to Comic Con in 2010. This past year was such a hassle.

Either way it sounds like it will be easier to maneuver around, which was nice if you had some specific exclusives or just wanted to get a lay of the land. It's too bad they couldn't find a way to make the whole convention a bit more limited. I'd be willing to spend a little more if it meant less tickets and more room on the convention floor.

I'm miffed because I was looking forward to running with the bulls on Wednesday night, and now, it's just disappointing not to get that chance. Ah well.

It was just stupidly marketed. If it was actually more expensive than the regular 4 day pass, I would gladly choose not to buy the preview night attached 4 day pass and save 10-20 bucks. As it stated, the price was the same for both.
Now the biggest concern is if they're going to crack down on the "industry" passes. I remember last year the media pass line was at least 10x's longer than the regular pass line and as soon as they hit the sell out point, anyone with a blogger or wordpress account signed up and received an industry pass without much question.

while on the subject, they really should just make wednesday a full fucking day already. It's beyond a joke on how they handle it and the more days they could spread the event out the better they could lay out the program so it doesn't become a clusterfuck that has the smaller hallways have the fairly large and indemand presentations. I'm looking at you Adult Swim, which for years required the ballroom 20 space.

It was not a selling point for 2010, but it has been a selling point for the past 4 years. The fact is that Preview Night was originally industry only until they offered it as a bonus if JQP bought the 4 day pass.

no, meaning that 2010's 4 day passes were the same price regardless on if you wanted or didn't want preview night. So of course they were going to sell out quickly as you might as well get the 4 day WITH the preview night option, especially this far from the show when you're not sure if you're going to be able to do preview night, than buy a 4 day pass and choose to get less for the same amount of money.
But again, that doesn't address the fact that the ability to get industry passes has become even more simplistic, so if you return it back to the days of only being industry only, well then you still have an ass ton of fake media badge holders taking up space trying to get those exclusives.

There was a small Professionals show that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday- but it was made clear by SDCC that the show and Preview Night served much different purposes.

It would depend on if anyone would have an extra room. I don't wanna do the couch thing. I'd much rather just pay for my own hotel room. I would probably get a cheap(er) room in east county at the end of the Orange Trolley line.

I have my pass, but I don't know if I'm going.
Part of me suspects there's an element that's 'block-buying' passes, which would explain the velocity of sales. And it's hinting at the kind of crowd you can expect at 2010...

I think it's BS that you can't pick up a 4-day badge until 8:30 a.m. Thursday, instead of on Wednesday afternoon/evening.
