David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Looks like this Fincher project is actually going to happen...

I haven't read the book, but look forward to any new film by DF.

End Of Show reports that Columbia Pictures has finally given The Social Network an official greenlight. David Fincher is officially signed on, and the site claims the film has a $47 million budget and will begin production in October. Loaded Gun have heard that scouts are actively looking for film locations in Cambridge and Boston.

Based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal, The Social Network tells the story of Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg, the founders of Facebook. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, and the 162-page first draft has been described as “Unpredictable, Funny, Touching and Sad".

The subject matter does not interest me at all, but, hey, it's Fincher.

Not a writer / director combo I would ever think to put together, but I think they're both great individually. Hopefully this will not disappoint.

I was hoping his next movie would redeem him for the last one. So far, this doesn't look the case.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

I just sent a friend request to this movie.

Actually, I've been part of the group Sorkin started on there since he first started it.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Interesting.

Fincher picks his projects very carefully, so the script must be very good.

Sounds like a yawner. What is this going to be, two hours of people writing HTML code?

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

The minute I heard about CCoBB I thought the dark and whimsical subject matter would be perfect for Fincher... And then it turned out to be pretty awful.

This feels like the opposite, so maybe it will turn out to be phenomenal. I haven't seen The Game in a while, but I imagine that would be the closest thing he's made to a film like this.

I'm not hugely into Sorkin (Sports Night was great), but to be fair I have the entire West Wing set and just haven't dove into it yet.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Columbia Pictures and director David Fincher have set its core cast for “The Social Network,” the Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama about the formation of Facebook.

Jesse Eisenberg will play founder Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook’s founding president, and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg as the social network became a financial juggernaut.

Production will begin next month in Boston and then move to Los Angeles.

Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Cean Chaffin will produce. Kevin Spacey is executive producer.

The pic focuses on the evolution of Facebook, the social network created in 2004 on the Harvard campus. And how overnight success and wealth changes the lives of the classmates who created it. The trio were the subject of internet rumors as Fincher zeroed in on his leads.

Eisenberg, who went from “The Squid and the Whale” to “Adventureland,” locked the coveted role as Zuckerberg as Columbia prepares to release his latest film, “Zombieland,” on October 2.

Timberlake was most recently seen in “The Open Road,” and Garfield in the Terry Gilliam-directed “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.”

Eisenberg’s repped by ICM, Timberlake by WME and managers Rick Yorn and Jennifer Davisson-Killoran, and Garfield by CAA.

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

Timberlake is badass, I said it. Loved him in both Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan.

Jesse Eisenberg is good, if not a little goofy for a Fincher picture, but given the subject matter, i'm sure he'll be fine.

I love the director, like the writer, can safely say I have no interest in this project.

To be fair I'll reserve judgement til I see a trailer, but to be honest I'll most likely only rent it.

Sportnight is good but I think Sorkin was at the top of his game the first few seasons of The West Wing, it's the only tv show that has ever given me chills while watching it!

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"

I like Timberlake and Fincher. Jesse Eisenberg just annoys the piss out of me (although I enjoyed Adventureland, but mainly because of the rest of the cast). I'll probably scope this out as a rental.

I don't have a huge problem with Timberlake, but I'm more interested to see how Eisenberg works in this. Liked him in Adventureland.

When Facebook disappears in ten years, will future audiences care about this movie?
