No. Just... no.

If Fox wants to be involved in an Avengers-type film, then they should negotiate some kind of cross-studio project with Disney/Marvel studios. But that will never happen.

How do rights for these comic licenses work? The last FF movie came out in 2007, when this reboot coming out?

I believe as long as they begin some sort of production by the end of the year they are good.

re: Fantastic Four - Reboot (2015, D: Trank)

Looks like we have a release date for this: March 6, 2015.

Interesting article about why: http://screencrush.com/fantastic-fou...-release-date/

he stars are aligning for the upcoming reboot of the ‘Fantastic Four‘ franchise. First, the film found a young, hungry and talented director in Josh Trank, whose ‘Chronicle‘ was one of the surprise hits of 2012. Then it landed a talented screenwriting team in Jeremy Slater and Michael Green. Of course, the whole thing has to actually work if it’s going to be any good, but now we know how long these guys will have to make it work. The official release date for the new ‘Fantastic Four’ is…

…March 6, 2015! That’s a little over two years from now, if you’re curious and can’t do math.

If you’re wondering why 20th Century Fox is placing a potential tentpole in the Spring, all you’ve got to do is look to the summer, which is already stuffed with the likes of ‘Avengers 2,’ ‘Justice League’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ This announcement pretty much makes 2015 the geekiest year in film history — every month on the calendar seems to be bursting with all kinds of nerd bait.

We have no idea what to expect from the new ‘Fantastic Four,’ but there’s no way it can be as bad as the previous two films, which took the comic’s wonderful team/family dynamic and reduced it to the antics of a bad sitcom. ‘Chronicle’ did many things right, but one of them was creating fascinating, flawed characters in complicated relationships. If Trank can bring this attention to character detail to the new film, we may finally have a ‘Fantastic Four’ film worthy of the characters’ 50 year history.

I'm interested if it's done right. 2015 is pretty damn stacked for movies so far.

Re: that article: there are plenty of ways it can go bad, so I'm not going to start singing praises just yet. Chronicle was good, but I wouldn't exactly call any of the characters "fascinating". I'll remain cautiously optimisitic and hope for the best.

It shouldn't be too hard but..better than the previous FF movies would be nice.

Guess I'm in the minority but I liked the first FF movie & parts of the 2nd were good. Johnny & Ben were spot on. The scene where Johnny puts shaving cream in Ben's hand & then tricks him into slapping it on his face is right out of the comics.

While I doubt Chris Evens would be back (imagine the confusion of him playing 2 Marvel characters in the same year), bring back Chiclis (sp?).

If they're doing a reboot, I doubt they'd reuse any of the same actors.

I'm with resinrats ... don't get all the hate for the FF movies. However I was never a major comic-book fan so I don't have those ties.

I agree with the "bring back Chiklis" sentiment ... but I would put money on Fox using something along the lines of the Hulk ... an actor-driven CG character.

No way they would bring back any of the previous actors for a reboot.

re: Fantastic Four - Reboot (2015, D: Trank)

The first FF movie was pretty bad, especially considering they had Dr. Doom to use as a villain. They had access to Marvel's best villain and he turned out so poor in the film. The second movie is actually a good comic book movie, if you ignore the stupid cloud as a substitute for a humanoid Galactus. Chris Evans and Chiklis were perfect choices, though the casting choices for both Sue and Reed were horrible. I am sorry, you can't cast Jessica Alba as a WASPy Sue Storm, no matter how hot she may be.

I like both of the FF movies, the second moreso if only because of the Surfer.

With FF during Byrne's run being my favorite comic book series, I can only hope that Fox has finally killed it's last chance at this franchise by sticking it in the middle of a bunch of box-office juggernauts.

The rights can't revert to Marvel fast enough for me.

re: Fantastic Four - Reboot (2015, D: Trank)

Even though it's still no masterpiece, it's really a shame that more comic-fans could at least see the first FF movie in it's extended cut (Doom kills more people, failing at adapting powers, a Puppet Master hint)

Maybe it's a Fox thing, but Director's Cuts for Marvel-Fox films always seem to be better than what everyone saw in theaters. Thankfully, they don't seem to have this option anymore.

re: Fantastic Four - Reboot (2015, D: Trank)

I guess the first two Fantastic Four movies aren't terrible. They're watchable but to me they just seem like they could have been so much better than how they turned out. I agree that Dr. Doom was done terribly in the first film as he's one of the biggest Marvel villains and really just felt sort of misused. Galactus being a cloud was pretty stupid too.

Jessica was the hot babe at the time when they were casting. We have seen this mistake before in movies.

All they gotta do is adapt the original galactus trilogy but i would like it to be no reboot. No need for another origin story. Just recap the origin during the opening credits ala Incredible Hulk and then start fresh.

Even though we don't know what the intended release dates are for Justice League and Star Wars since they are just stated as 2015 releases, it is still having to compete with them for marketing.

I don't know, I can't see how either of those movies would affect the marketing for a March release movie, nor would I guess it would be anywhere near the date for Fantastic Four.

I'm still convinced Fantastic Four is one of the those comic properties that just don't work for the movies. It's too campy and doesn't work as a serious superhero film. The Corman film is fun but obscure for a reason, and the big budget Tim Story films were embarrassing on every single level.

I'm not holding my breath that this will become a huge franchise for FOX.

The Incredibles did alright in terms of box office and it's a thinly-disguised version of the FF.
