From Dark Horizons:

Keira Knightley is tipped to replace Marion Cotillard in David Cronenberg's upcoming sci-fi thriller "Cosmopolis" for Alfama Films reports The Los Angeles Times.

Cotillard was set to play the female lead and love interest of Robert Pattinson's character. However news of Cotillard's pregnancy the other day means that by the time he's finished "Breaking Dawn" and is ready to film this starting in late May, she'll have a bump too big to disguise.

Now, the film's production company Alfama Films has posted Knightley's headshot up on its official site along with Pattinson's as the film's leads. The choice of Knightley isn't a huge surprise as Cronenberg just finished filming "A Dangerous Method" with her.

****************************************************

Ugh. I can't stand her. Cotillard would've be much better.

I'm surprised that Knightley is actually venturing out of the cozy confines of period-piece work.

Yeah, like her big period piece of 2010, Never Let Me Down.

Obviously there are exceptions, but you know what I mean.

And Star Wars....and Domino....and those Pirate films (depending on whether you consider them period pieces or not for the sake of this discussion)

I like Knightley so I approve of the change (and prefer it even). I'm just not sure about Pattinson. But I only know him from the Twilight franchise (which I mercifully only saw bits and pieces). But I wonder if that's a Star Wars prequels scenario (good/great actors delivering shitty performances).

Let us not forget the action piece w/ Clive Owen: King Arthur.

That was a fun movie, actually. And it was the film that introduced me to Ray Winstone.

Not to get off topic but...

No one brought it up but I wonder if Cotillard's pregnancy had anything to do with Anne Hathaway getting the Catwoman role? I never read if Marion was up for it she seemed like a perfect candidate along with past history with Nolan.

Edit: 18,000th post. Yay.

I honestly would have liked Cotillard as Kyle. Hell...make Selina a french woman. I'd be fine w/ it if it was Marion Cotillard .

Meh. Cotillard didn't do much for me in Inception. Let's get some new blood.

Although I enjoyed Inception far more than you, I totally agree.

Just got the Tweet from Criterion attaching it. Looks like a return by the old hallucinatory madman we first fell in love with.

re: Cosmopolis (2012, D: Cronenberg) S: Robert Pattinson

Based on the trailer, this looks great despite my Pattinson reservations.

I've liked Cronenberg's more modern films, just not anywhere near as much as his earlier/middle period so hopefully this is a bit more like those.

Yes it does.
Cronenberg finally writes a screenplay which he has not done since 1999 (eXistenZ).

I think the trailer looks batshit insane and I mean that in an awesome way. I'm very excited about this one. But I don't think we should discount what he's been up to since eXistenZ. His movies with Viggo Mortensen are some of the best of his career.
