Agreed. It seems to be working, as I've talked to a few people that are interested in seeing it now, and that was before they knew it was even remotely connected to the "Alien universe."

I completely disagree. I feel that the drip of information (or stream) has been just right. On Facebook, the film updates only every few days, and provides assets (like the official font) for fans to make their own version of one-sheets. The videos being released (at least the ones I am seeing) are not part of the film. I do not expect to see a TED talk or a promo video for the Fassborg in theaters.

It doesn't help that 3/4 of the people I talk to about the movie can't pronounce the name. I really hope that doesn't hurt the film because I really want this one to succeed.

That music is terrible and unnecessary. You would never have heard something like that in any of the scenes where Ripley confronts Ash in Alien.

Well for one thing...we don't know if that's actually in it, could be...who knows? Sometimes music in clips isn't in there when we get stuff like that. And for the second thing...this isn't trying to be Alien. It's something bigger than Alien. It doesn't need to be Alien. It's asking a question and giving you an answer over taking you to a situation and seeing it unravel. P

I'm so excited that this will my first Ridley Scott film to see in theaters. I don't know how I'll react cuz so far this film is too much for me to handle cuz of all the excitement it generates. What this film could possibly do to the industry and the genre...it's a big fucking deal. Ramifications that could lead from it...wild, man. The good...and the bad.

Perhaps, we'll see. I'm just worried about how the overall score will work in the actual film. On it's own it isn't growing on me at all, it just sounds like variations on very similar tracks Goldenthal created for Alien 3 which is my second favorite soundtrack of the series. Hopefully it'll work better in context.

Your parents didn't take you to Gladiator? Probably good that they didn't. I forget that Mr. Scott hasn't made many major must see in the theater movies since 2005. FWIW, I'm also starting to think the music sounds a bit too bombastic.

I don't know why I didn't want to see Gladiator. I liked it very much when I was younger. Still do..specifically the extended cut. As an adult..less so cuz I'm able to go beyond how epic it is in production, neat designs, etc.
I was 13 when the movie came out. And looking at the movies that came out that year. The only things I cared for were X-Men, Godzilla 2000, The Legend of Drunken Master, Shanghai Noon, O Brother Where Art Thou?, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (which I really really loved at that age...and I still do).
I remember in 2001 that I did want to see it but it wasn't something I was looking for in 2000.

Glad to see that it's rated R. Yea, yea, I don't keep up on these threads.
Watching that featurette, I get the feeling that this is a hit. As long as Ridley kept things going and is out to satisfy audiences. I think this is one of those movies that will attract mainstream audiences, along with the film folks.

I watched the first trailer and have avoided everything else, just watched Alien and Aliens today, I am now so very pumped. I gotta crank down...
I'll probably watch Alien 3 and Resurrection too just because I haven't seen them in a while. I remember liking 3 even though it definitely had problems, and being entertained by Resurrection even though it is for sure the weakest of those 4 movies.

Over at Blu-Ray.com topic someone has posted links to several European reviews. Personlly as I posted there I couldn't give a "Rat's A##" about the reviews. Alien was in 1979 with Resurrection in 1997. For some of Alien fans it's been a long time waiting and I'm not going to let a handful of critics who are probably not even Alien fans at all deter me from the movie.
I wished they found a way to tie in to trailers when they first found the "eggs" and Alien from 1979 to Prometheus. If movie goers saw the trailers with a tie-in and how it's related, I bet there would be far more ethusiasm.

Yeah I read some of those reviews, it sounds like an entertaining, beautifully shot movie with a middle-of-the-road script. In many ways, it's kind of what I expected.
Can't wait to see it on the big screen.

Typical Ridley Scott, or James Cameron for that matter. I hope this movie has staying power, as I don't see it outperforming the new Madagascar entry. The only hope it has is to get glowing reviews to gain the interest of the average joe adult.
