Don't look now but I hear they're casting Angelina Jolie as the alien. Talk about your sharp left turns...

I'll buy Jolie as the alien, the concept worked for Species.
An origin story is A-OK with me, but if it's a remake, just kill me now.

i actually thought she was the worst thing about DP and think she is a terrible actress all together.
she would be a horrible choice for Ripley. they need someone who looks tough and can act. remember Sigourney Weaver was no prom queen. she had this tough, gruff exterior that made her hot.
Winstead doesn't do a whole lot for me, but to go with a traditionally pretty actress would be the anti-thesis of what the "Ripley" character is all about.

Tori Spelling will be Ripley.
Her heart belongs to the dreamy Captain Dallas, but he is dating her best friend Lambert and they are due to leave on the Nostromo...
She is insecure about joining the crew of the Nostromo, in a montage to Helen Reddy's "I am Woman" she stands before a mirror, trying on her favorite hats, empowering her enough to -
Put on her old cheerleading outfit, then gazes at the Nostromo in the distance, where she convinces herself, " I am good enough"
Once onboard she runs into a time traveling Newt that tells her out of "respect for the fans," they are throwing everything established by the previous films out the window... And in this version, the Aliens TALK! AND... AND....
I need a cigarette...

How about a constitutional amendment that bans remaking any film for a period of fifty years after the release date of the original.

Christ on a crutch! Reboots and remakes and prequels!!! I never thought I would see the day that I'd actually miss classic shitty roman-numeral sequels.
C'mon, screw the origin/reboot, let's get us a frickin' "Alien V" and maybe even an "Alien VI"!!

I was thinking about this, that it would be best if there wasn't a remake, but I'm not sure how you progress the storyline further? Maybe if they just forgot the last two films and went did something along the lines of Hicks and Ripley being found by an alien ship from the same race as the Space Jockey.

Another type of remake I wouldn't mind seeing, that I don't believe has ever been done... what if they just take the original shooting script and hand it to another director, just like a play? I don't mean the way Gus Van Sant re-did Psycho shot-for-shot. I mean the way different directors and actors will take the same play (Hamlet, for example) and do totally different interpretations of it. Why not with a movie script?
Imagine the same plot, same dialogue, different cast, different directing style, and newly designed ships and yes, a newly designed alien... interesting.
The thing I hate about our current version of remakes/reboots is they tend to take films by brilliant directors and have them rewritten and remade by shitty hacks like Ratner or Paul WS Anderson.

This is what we should all do to anyone that thinks about (remakes or rebooting are classics)!

I'm not going to complain about having another classic defiled. I'm just going to complain solely about the fact that this is a terrible idea because it will be a CGI monstrosity, when what it needs to be is 100% practical FX.
Also, since a film paced like "Alien", with only one alien, will be seen as a bore to audiences by Fox, I'd suspect this remake will be more along the lines of Aliens.

According to this Tony Scott has confirmed the director and that it will be a prequel, not a remake:

The only confidence I have in this is that Ridley is involved. He has been mentioning a prequel for at least a decade.
I couldn't disagree more with the idea of making a film that made 3 and 4 into a dream. I loved the fact that they killed off Newt and Hicks at the beginning of A3. I didn't need Aliens part 2. I liked the idea of Ripley losing everyone she ever cared about to the xenos.

I would have liked Ripley losing everything to the xenos, if it came packaged in a better script.
I'd welcome a movie that makes 3&4 pointless as those two movies are the worst in the series. 4 plays like some fan fiction, and 3 is built on a mediocre, cobbled together script.
I welcome a prequel that explains the origins of the aliens, the ship, and the space jockey.

Unfortunately, I think the success of that movie is what is responsible for a lot of this reboot nonsense. So would I rather "reimagine" an alternate timeline with or without Batman Begins? Now that's the question.
