Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Angels and Demons is getting crap reviews. Terminator seems like the likeliest candidate to take box office away from Star Trek. Does anyone actually want to see Night at the Museum and Land of the Lost?

I doubt that....
2nd week: Angels & Demons/Etc. 3rd week: Terminator Salvation/Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian 4th week: Up/Drag Me to Hell 5th week: Land of the Lost/The Hangover Did I say it'll stay number #1 at the box-office week after week? No. I said it'll have legs. At this point if you can't see that this film has the potential to do north of 200M, then your head is inserted somewhere. |

Sadly, I think there's still gold in the "Night at the Museum" hills. Maybe not as much as the original. But "Land of the Lost" looks absolutely dreadful. And who is it's audience!? Most if not all kids don't even know of the original series. Hopefully the people who watched it the first time around have moved on. Or will pass on it because it's nothing like it. I haven't cringed during a trailer in I don't know how long. Awful stuff. |

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
What else am I going to take my kids to? Star Trek?
Oh wait... |
Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Honestly I'd rather watch Night at the Museum & Land of the Lost over Star Trek any time.

Well that speaks volumes. |

I don't know. Maybe actually seeing the movie and then commenting? And you know what? I'm not a trekkie. I have not seen one of the television shows. And have seen maybe four of the films. In fact, just watched the first on BD tonight from Netlix. Man was that terrible. Has not held up well at all. But I saw this new movie, and it's absolutely fantastic. It has everything. |
Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
I've seen enough of the TV shows & other flicks, they are complete garbage....
One of the worst franchises ever created so no thanks for the new film.... |

My kids want to see Night at the Museum, and the audience has always laughed at the Land of the Lost trailers, but I think Star Trek will be doing just fine for the next few weeks, and then blow up all over again on DVD and Blu-ray. |
Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
I can't speak to what's happening everywhere, but at my local theatre last night, Star Trek was sold out on two screens for all evening shows. Angels & Demons was on three screens (2 showtimes though) and wasn't sold out...

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Deadline Hollywood says Star Trek earned about $12.5 million last night and could get $38 million for the weekend.

One of the worst franchises ever created so no thanks for the new film.... From all I've read about the new movie (interviews, reviews, etc.), J.J. and crew have given every indication they want to move the franchise beyond it's "fan" base. You sure seem to fit the bill. The movie is fast paced, well acted, and has great SPFX. One could say it's the Transformers of Star Trek movies (not a compliment, btw)... but (FWIW and I won't go into details), I'm not particularly enthralled with the direction they've taken the franchise. As Abrams has reputedly said (probably as a riff on Nimoy and Shatner's Oldsmobile commercials), "It's not your father's Star Trek." And I have to say, there's no lie there. |

Open your mind. |
Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Actually, I enjoyed the trailer for Land of the Lost, I have never seen a Will Ferrell movie, but will see this one, I was glad to see they are giving comedic bits to the dinosaur (ala Ringo Starr's Caveman). I think an over the top comedy was the only way to go with that franchise. It may be full of old jokes, but it looks like funny old jokes. I think it will be big, kids love dinos.
Edit: Not the tv trailer, the tv trailer makes it look lame.... |

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
$3.12m on Wednesday, overtook Angels and Demons (A&D led on Monday and Tuesday, Trek on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday) and should be at $160m today.

With $209.3 million in 24 days, the sci-fi adventure soared past Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan to become the Star Trek franchise's third biggest movie adjusted for ticket price inflation, and it's on the verge of eclipsing Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. I guess that means TMP is atop the adjusted list? |

Yes. 3 weeks.
Its got angels and Demons coming out a week later and 13 days after Star Trek Opens Terminator 4 opens up which I would say is certainly some serious sci-fi/action competition and I believe it'll take all the business previously done by Star Trek and more.. Then a day later Night at the Museam 2 opens up. |
