The second one really isn't bad at all. It's almost exactly the same as Ghostbusters II in that it doesn't really do anything blatantly wrong but suffers from being a soulless phone-in by pretty much everyone involved.
We've all seen much, much worse sequels than Men in Black II and if you honestly think its one of the worst sequels ever you need to watch more movies.

It's funny but until I really thought about it the similarities are pretty staggering.

My own boxoffice instincts are telling me this is gonna flop. But then I've never seen either of the two previous MIB films and I've never understood the appeal of Will Smith. The only film of his I've seen in a theater was INDEPENDENCE DAY, which remains the only film of his I've seen in its entirety. So I may have a blind spot here.

I still like Will Smith, but TLJ easily made the movies what they were.
It's been disappointing reading he's only in it for a brief time.

As much as I love the first MIB, a third wasn't really necessary.
Is there a reason why Rip Torn is nowhere to be seen in the trailers?

For a studio without a franchise, it was absolutely necessary. And look what it got Will Smith.. a starring film for both of his kids (Karate Kid and Annie).
All studios want a franchise to milk. It's (supposed to be) guaranteed money. It's tougher to sell a new film, than a somewhat proven franchise. John Carter, Golden Compass and Battleship were gambles at being franchise pictures for Disney, New Line and Unversal. And it's unlikely that they will have sequels.
It's the reason why Sony is really trying to push for Ghostbusters 3.

A little off topic, but why is Pitbull doing the song for this one? I was kind of looking forward to hearing a new Will Smith effort.

yeah, Bond is Sony.
And not that it means much in comparison to Bond and MIB but they have The Millenium Trilogy....which is nothing compared to those 2.

If it were anyone but Ebert, I wouldn't be skeptical.

Wow. That review has me really excited about this. And I was already in for Brolin alone.
