. I read it in the collected form and still have to re-read to catch some stuff. I actually kind of glossed over it at first then realized this was a comic that would require some involvement to read. I meant it was more difficult to follow than your average comic. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
It's more difficult than your average comic because it actually takes advantage of the medium to tell the story. Moore purposefully put things in that were clues for later, knowing full well you could go back and look at those panels again. It wasn't as linear as a movie is.

BOX OFFICE DERBY
Average four-day weekend predictions of 593 players: 1. 'Watchmen' - $70.8 million From BOM. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
From BOM also:
Warner Bros.' "Watchmen" grossed $4.6 million in Thursday midnight runs, more than double the midnight gross for Zack Snyder's previous film "300." Pic played more than 1,595 midnight run across the country. Today, "Watchmen" officially opens in a total 3,611 theaters. That's the widest theater count ever for an R-rated film. |

Everyone so far is underestimating the hell out of this. Considering this is the most hyped up movie since TDK, as well as being more appealing than 300, the opening weekend will be over 100 mil.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
The 100 million guess was just as silly as those who guessed under 40 million and said that only comic fans would want to see this :)

What will be interesting is the rate of decay - if it was only comic book fans, most will likely have seen it the first week and the fall off should be rather steep. If it holds up relatively well, then it will be hard to say it's just comic book fans. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
No point in making anymore predictions. Box Office Guru's Sunday night update says it came in at $55.7 million.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the final numbers be slightly HIGHER than that 55.7 - the showing I went to last night was WAY busier than the one I saw on Saturday, so it could have just been my theatre, but maybe business didn't dip as far on Sunday as they had predicted.
|
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
They usually overestimate Sunday and final numbers are usually lower for a new release. But it sometimes goes in the opposite direction.
|
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
ok I admit I was wrong, all of you can laugh at me thats fine. Saw the movie on saturday and it was awesome, maybe the best comic book movie ever? I thought it was up there with dark knight.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
This'll fall like a rock. All the geeks saw it on Friday and Saturday. There was about 20 people in the theater I saw it at yesterday, and going out, I only heard three words being uttered by most of 'em - "That was boring."
And I have to agree. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
Pretty good opening, but this will definitely fall hard next weekend. I'll bet it drops 65% but I'd like to see it do well in the long run. I really liked it, but I have also read the comic. Everyone I've talked to that hadn't thought the movie was too talky and too long.

I wanted to see this on Friday but didn't get a chance to. Reviews have been so-so and most don't recommend it for people that haven't read the book. I may end up waiting to rent the Blu-Ray. |

And I have to agree. Sounds like being at the last Superman movie. |

:shrug:To each their own. I guess some people just can't handle the fact that there will always be some who won't like the same things they do. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
50-65 million was my guess, pretty much spot on I guess lol.
