Compare that to 300. When that came out every guy I knew couldn't wait to get into the theatre and see it. Sure its a small sample size, but I don't think any of us have any real substantial sample sizes to base this on. |

i've read that DC printed 1,000,000 copies of Watchmen in 2008 and 100,000 in 2007. I realize the movie being in production increases sales but that still shows that there is a big audience for it.

75% -- that's "wait for DVD" territory for me. Glad I didn't pre-order my tickets yet.

I'll just take their word for it and skip it all together.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
is anyone seeing a sneak peek of this?

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
To hell with the Hollywood Reporter and Variety reviews.
The HR guy gave 10,000 BC a good review, the Variety guy liked Max Payne. Goes to prove their worth as not liking this. |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
F-it, I'm just hoping I like it. Plus, I'm going to pay 50 million dollars for my ticket.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
This will have a decent opening weekend in 40-50 mil range. Then it will drop off the face of the planet the second week and on.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
I think it will not make the money most of you are expecting, and here's why, from a review:
Part of that, and one of the reasons fans will adore it so much, is the simple refusal to appeal to an audience unfamiliar with the material. Throwing us in the deep end right from the get go, it demands you pay attention for all of its near three-hour runtime and even then will often prove confusing during its first act in which so much information is being thrown at the screen that its daunting even amongst those well-versed in the material (for the record I normally don't read much in the way of comics, but I did read this twice a few years ago and once again about two months ago). http://www.darkhorizons.com/reviews/888/Watchmen/ |
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
^ I knew reading the graphic novel / watching the motion comic beforehand would be a good idea ... looks like Snyder refused to compromise for those unfamiliar with the book :/

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
^^ I sincerely hope that isn't the case. There is a difference between being too stupid to "get it" and being overwhelmed with information at a fast pace.
|
Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
^I agree, but unfortunately, it is inevitable as long as negative reviews keep coming in and saying the same thing.
It may sound like a silly argument to me and you... but never stand between fanboys and logic. ;) |

[QUOTE=Damed;9300395]I think it will not make the money most of you are expecting, and here's why, from a review:
Those completely unfamiliar with it will likely be so overloaded with info that they will be lost/ The Harry Potter movies were pretty close to the books, so I hear, and I found myself overwhelmed by them and got lost frequently (my daughter made me watch the first three movies). I felt the movies were more interested in pleasing readers of the books than in drawing in new fans. However, since those books are such worldwide best-sellers, the films did well, too. Enough of the moviegoing audience was familiar with the books to make the films a hit. The Watchmen comic, however, does not have that kind of worldwide following. (If it did, it would have been made into a movie 23 years ago.) So it runs a greater risk of alienating non-readers than the Harry Potter movies did. |

Which you've got to give him credit for - but at the same time, it's potentially alienating the larger audience and therefore limiting the box office take.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Watchmen
Though I was probably too generous, I voted for "51-75 million" (likely the lower end of that scale).
