Maybe, but if it falls flat financially expect it to face some hurtles. The Oscars love having movies that connect with both audiences and critics alike to avoid looking snobbish.
I have come to the conclusion that unless a movie I like gets an award, that the Oscars are complete bull shit. Avatar being nominated for best picture is proof that the Oscars now go to the most popular movies as opposed to the best movies. |

A movie..YOU like...well...that's the problem. It's a bunch of people that like a certain film and vote for it the most.

But Avatar didn't win, so it doesn't prove your point at all, right? |

I think it has more to do with the fact that it got a nom. It was a very entertaining movie that blew my mind visually, but the story and characters were cookie cutter to the max. It was dazzling to the eye, but not to the intellect. I hope Inception does well, but making an intelligent movie in the summer is dangerous. |

And here I'm thinking you'd love that movie, given your screen name. Nope. My screen name is more of a cross of how I support Blu Ray (hence the spelling), and a character from Arrested Development named Tobias Funke. |

'twas but a jest, Blu. I know, it's hard to tell if someone is joking via text...

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
FWIW, I'm re-watching The Prestige and this truly is a magnificent film. It's got about as much replay value as The Usual Suspects IMO. The key to really enjoying this movie is to pay attention to the opening lines : "are you watching closely?" If you do, you will pick up on an incredible amount.

Pretty much. Cuz...you do. The actions and mannerisms they do.

I like that film more each time I see it. Great, great film. Fantastic example of truly intelligent film making. |

I realize that a good majority of the viewing public are not the most discerning nor do they have the highest intellect, but I don't think the audience will be the cretins from Idiocracy. :) I don't think the studio, filmmakers etc are going to be in the soup line if Inception isn't a huge blockbuster. |

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
You can listen to the entire soundtrack.
http://www.musicme.com/#/Hans-Zimmer...624965008.html The catch is that the website is in French and you have to join the sites Facebook page to listen to the complete tracks. I'm listening to them now, and "Time" is definitely my favorite. Really emotional music. |
Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
there maybe more IMAX screens than theatres that have 70mm projector's but you'd think that Nolan might have pushed Warners to strike say 20 or so prints for the theatres that CAN show the film as such - a 70mm movie over at the Uptown theatre here in DC would have been ultra-sweet, but guess I'll have to trek out to Udvar Hazy near Dulles airport to see this in IMAX 'film'

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
I posted this in the Armond White thread, but what are the odds that he gives a negative review? Inception still has a 100% rating on RT. I fully expect it to stay over 90%, maybe even 95%. Also White will most definitely be the troll that he always is and bash it.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
I am probally one of the few people who hasn't drank Nolan's kool-aid and I gotta say the more I see of this the more I think of Dark City. I think I will pass on this, the last time I went with the "It" movie of the time I tried to watch Avatar and got bored to death. I will stick with the little known stuff this summer (like Predators) and avoid the high profile junk that hollywood seems to be making

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action
It has its similarities to Dark City -- noir themes, dream / memory implementation, morphable buildings ... but I think this one probably ends with a James Bond style fight instead of a Dragon Ball Z one. Oh plus no aliens trying to find out what makes us human, and I'm hesitant to say but I don't think the main character is framed for killing hookers in this one, nor are people being replaced from scene to scene.
That said, I agree, I will stick with the little known stuff this summer (like Predators) and avoid the high profile junk that hollywood seems to be making Movie got its first negative review btw, for being too serious. |
