The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

Or "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Part 3
Part 2
Part 1

Let's try and keep this discussion a little more focused, and refrain from personal attacks. Thanks.

After watching the Golden Globes, I hope Nolan accepts Ledger's Oscar as well.

I'm confused. Wouldn't Bush accept it, since it's his movie?

The wife and I had a back-to-back screening of Begins and TDK last Sunday which was great. Going from the playing card at the end of begins to seeing the joker's face in the bank in TDK really ties the 2 movies together.

So Ledger seems like a sure bet for Supporting Actor. But what about everyone else involved? Movie? Director? Score? What are the odds we could actually see a Batman movie win Best Picture? It'd be hard to cheer against "Wall-E" for "Dark Knight" if they both got nominated.

Wall-E will not be nominated for best picture. Dark Knight, maybe, but I highly doubt it.

Ledger's a good bet for Supporting actor, I highly doubt we'll see a Best Picture or Best Director nomination. As much as I liked the score it seems like a longshot.

Wall E will certainly be nominated and (IMO) probably win for Best Animated Feature.

I'm hoping for a Best Picture nomination but I know it won't win anyway. It seems like Slumdog has that wrapped up. Still, the recognition would be nice.

As much as I liked Ledger in this, I was more invested in Oldman and Eckhart. I'd rather either of those two get nominated for best supporting actor.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

I think The Dark Knight has a decent shot at getting a nomination, but I'm betting on Slumdog to win best picture. I could also see Nolan get a nomination for best director, Ledger for supporting actor (duh), makeup, costuming, cinematography, editing, sound, and score. So TDK could still take home a decent chunk of statues.

It was cool to see that he won it at the Globes and as far as I'm concerned, this film deserves whatever awards it may receive.

I think Ledger is a lock for the win. As for Best Picture, anything but Slumdog please. Milk, Wrestler, Dark Knight, Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road -- all far superior.

Slumdog is best picture as far as I see. I'd love for TDK to get it cuz it's a very good film...but Slumdog was great. And in Slumdog getting Best Pic, Boyle would follow with Best Director. Though I think Nolan really deserves it, not that Boyle is a lesser director, look at the epic nature that it was. It was wonderfully controlled and executed with great precision. And seeing Nolan grow as filmmaker from Memento to TDK is wonderful.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

In my opinion, TDK is both the best film I've seen this year and the best directed film I've seen this year, so I'd love for Nolan and the movie to take top honors. Realistically, I think there's too much momentum behind other pictures. I'd be very angry, though, if Milk won, because I thought it was a bland movie with good performances. Nowhere near best picture material. It felt like an HBO movie.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

well all know that heath ledger is a lock for best supporting actor we all know that. It would be nice atleast for the darkknight to be nominated for best picture.

I would love to see is christopher nolan to get nominated for best director he truly deserves it.

what i dont get is this The Lord of the rings movie is like a fantasy type of movie yes it has some drama in it and it won a bunch of oscar and the return of the king won best picture.

my question is why not the dark knight ? I guess the memebers of the academy dont have great respect for the type of movies like the dark knight.

I dont considered the dark knight a comic book movie i considered it more as a crime drama alot of you might not agree with me and thats all right but thats the way i see the movie a crime drama.

I've never understood how the "Hollywood Foreign Press" and its choices are a precursor to the Academy's choices.

Because it's all self-congratulatory bullshit designed to reward an industry that averages 20 decent films a year out of 250 by letting them dress up in absurdly expensive clothing to fake some tears (or worse, actually cry) for being chosen by people who vote chiefly on name recognition.

I've got my DVR all set.

Not to mention the 20 of so great films are ones that are always in limited release. Some open wide, some don't. Yet the other 230 movies open in 1000s of theaters.

I'm not sure what the Hollywood Foreign Press is. Is it International Press or is it Domestic Press but not Hollywood related. Whichever the difference I suppose I don't care.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

It's confusing and all those so-called experts say there's a link to what the Oscar nominations will be, but that's the link? As far as it's been revealed, people who are nominated for Oscars are the ones who nominate and vote for winners related to their fields of expertise - editors nominate editors and so on. I don't know how accurate that is, so whoever knows please correct me.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4

AFAIK, the nominations are done by people within their field of expertise, but the entire academy votes on the nominated pictures.
