The movie has nothing to do with it. That dude was fucked up long before seeing the movie. There are millions upon millions of other sane people that left the theater and didn't go on violent 'Joker' sprees. Shocking!

I don't see anybody dressing up as Wall-E to kill people. But maybe I'm just not paying attention.

I'd like to admit that I was wrong. The Dark Knight is an evil movie with some kind of wind-warping abilities. I'm off to spread the gospel on random message boards.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4
Recollect yourself, sir!
There's a long history of individuals fixating on works of art as an expression (not cause) of psychiatric problems. The rash of suicides following in the wake of Sorrows of Young Werther is probably the most famous example of that. Virtually all of the people who pull a copycat anything have been diagnosed with mood disorders or more severe mental health problems, and the rest are presumably just the undiagnosed who slip through the cracks. To the point, I'm not aware of a single study indicating that a well-socialized individual would act out as a direct cause of a single work of violent art. The straw that broke the camel's back? Perhaps, but the thing about that last straw is that its weight is negligible--it's the accumulated weight of a lifetime of viewing glorified violence and being rewarded by their own antisocial thoughts and actions that leads people to act out. But that's a very different argument from the claim that viewing a single work can cause violent acts in a well-adjusted individual. That's pop psych at its worst and an oversimplification by a factor of a billion.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is that the misfortune of others justifies my newfound hatred of a film!

Instead of suspending baracine, why not just ban him altogether and be done with this troll nonsense?
Is there some criteria that has to be met for him to be banned, but he hasn't reached that point yet? Are we all missing something here?

I am an utter newbie here and I don't know what baracine did to be suspended, but I would like to point out that he has done some serious scholarship with regard to Nosferatu. See the thread on "Nosferatu : The Ultimate DVD Edition 11/20/2007!" in DVD Talk. The absence of baracine is quite a loss to that discussion. So much so that I tracked down this thread to find out why he was suspended. I hope you will consider his extraordinary contributions with regard to Nosferatu in judging whatever transgressions he may have committed in this thread.

Hmmmmm... this "jimhenry" is a New Member with only 5 posts and he seems to have quite a fondness for baracine... unless they are one in the same!
Mod, check for multiple accts asap. I suspect some form of tomfoolery.

Baracine's suspension is between Baracine and the moderators. Do not derail this thread with discussion of it. Thank you.

Okay, "utter newbie." Be sure to check out his "contributions" in the colorization thread.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion Thread Pt. 4
I asked a simple question - why not ban the guy and be done with it? It'd be far easier than having to constantly dissuade people from "feeding the troll". Last time I checked, Trolls weren't supposed to be welcome to stay on boards like this at all. The thread wouldn't ever be derailed at all.
