Re: World War Z
I was hoping to at least see the scene where the elitists get their compound attacked by people. I think that Henry Rollins did that story in the audio book. To think of it, I remember lots of the stories being awesome. But I don't remember them. Maybe it's time to listen again.

via joblo..who got it from the Hollywood Reporter:
Looks like the Brad Pitt starrer WORLD WAR Z is in troubled waters. With rumors of a troubled production, the Marc Forster (QUANTUM OF SOLACE) film, based on the novel by Max Brooks, is now getting a complete overhaul by Lost and PROMETHEUS scripter Damon Lindelof.
Damon Lindelof to rewrite the troubled Brad Pitt zombie epic World War Z | Movie News
Apparantly, Lindelof's job will be to focus on the film's third act, which I always felt was weak after reading J. Michael Straczynski's script (later reworked by Matthew Michael Carnahan).

Yea, the book is one of the most entertaining I've ever read. Everything I've seen and read about this movie leads me to believe it will be an utter disappointment and an embarrassment to the book.

I was so looking forward to this for Christmas. I'll be interested in hearing the full scoop on this someday.
Guess it's up to Resident Evil to supply my big budget zombie fix this year (what? I like them, ok?).

Re: World War Z
So why did they buy the book rights? Since there is literaly nothing but the film title and maybe character names in the film. I mean nothing. Idiotic choice. All time stupid.

Re: World War Z
My point finally is they paid a ton of money for a book that has utterly nothing to do with the end product as it's now scripted. I mean, why do you do that? Call it Zombie War and move on. There doesnt seem to be a scene or setting from the book that is used in the film. I can't finally get over paying scads of money for scource material that could be toilet paper. Why?

Re: World War Z
Brad Pitt went into producing and starring in Paramount’s World War Z, based on a best-selling Max Brooks novel about zombies in a postapocalyptic world, hoping to kick off a trilogy that would amount to more than just a series of PG-13 popcorn movies.

We already have a trilogy of amazing zombie films you silly goose! And they're not even close to being rated PG-13 in the absolute slightest.

This happens all of the time; unless you're selling Harry Potter numbers, your book is gonna go through the wringer. Adaptations get turned it over to directors and writers and stars who have no interest in the actual property. They have their own ideas they really want to use, their own movies they really want to make, their own egos they really want to massage. And so they incorporate what they can into what ever project they actually end up working on.

Because the heroes end up using an old battleship located in a naval museum as their means of making a final stand against the alien invaders. I shit you not, by the way. They even get some old retirees to serve as the crew of said battleship.

This would be freaking hilarious if it were't sadly true.

Some (possibly) good news:
Drew Goodard (Cabin in the Woods) and Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, The Way of the Gun, etc) have been hired to finish the 3rd act of the script rather than Damon Lindelof as originally reported.
