Interesting. If they don't at least show some brief flashbacks, or tell the story for an omniscient point of view, that will be disappointing. I'm not asking for a zombified Short Cuts. But it's at least got to infuse some of the stories. Right? Wait, a zombified Short Cuts sounds like one of the best things ever. Starring a dead Robert Altman!

I was hoping to at least see the scene where the elitists get their compound attacked by people. I think that Henry Rollins did that story in the audio book. To think of it, I remember lots of the stories being awesome. But I don't remember them. Maybe it's time to listen again.

That story stuck with me the most... I also dug the story with the pilot who was traversing across Kansas (I think) led by the voice of a mysterious woman who turned out to be her

Yea, the book is one of the most entertaining I've ever read. Everything I've seen and read about this movie leads me to believe it will be an utter disappointment and an embarrassment to the book.

I was so looking forward to this for Christmas. I'll be interested in hearing the full scoop on this someday.
Guess it's up to Resident Evil to supply my big budget zombie fix this year (what? I like them, ok?).

My point finally is they paid a ton of money for a book that has utterly nothing to do with the end product as it's now scripted. I mean, why do you do that? Call it Zombie War and move on. There doesnt seem to be a scene or setting from the book that is used in the film. I can't finally get over paying scads of money for scource material that could be toilet paper. Why?

Yeah, the audiobook is great. They are currently in the process of recording a new version. So far, the only actor they've revealed is Nathan Fillion. The WWZ Facebook page said that on Wednesday they'll be announcing the narrator and going to tease hints about the other cast members.

I wonder if Brad Pitt will get at least a bit part?

Production companies and studios bid for the film rights because it was considered a "hot" property. Eventually, Brad Pitt's company won. Therefore, Brad Pitt has to be the star of the adaptation. But ol' Brad reads [strike]the book[/strike] a synopsis of the book and realizes it's an ensemble piece. The only recurring character is passive, a narrator who doesn't actually participate in the action. That shit has to go, because Brad Fucking Pitt. So now it's a race against time blah blah blah.

This happens all of the time; unless you're selling Harry Potter numbers, your book is gonna go through the wringer. Adaptations get turned it over to directors and writers and stars who have no interest in the actual property. They have their own ideas they really want to use, their own movies they really want to make, their own egos they really want to massage. And so they incorporate what they can into what ever project they actually end up working on.

Because the heroes end up using an old battleship located in a naval museum as their means of making a final stand against the alien invaders. I shit you not, by the way. They even get some old retirees to serve as the crew of said battleship.

Some (possibly) good news:

Drew Goodard (Cabin in the Woods) and Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, The Way of the Gun, etc) have been hired to finish the 3rd act of the script rather than Damon Lindelof as originally reported.
