I don't think this is a problem. Outside of a Band of Brothers type series, the book as written would be tricky to translate to screen. It still excites me that it takes place during the outbreak, and not months later. Still looking forward to this.

Just cuz they muck up w/ the source material doesn't mean it'll be a bad film. The rating is very odd considering the subject at hand really needs that rating. I'm neutral on this. I really wanted to see that cuz that trailer /w the music (I'm blaming the music in getting me excited..cuz it was a neat piec of music to go with). Turns out..it..it wasn't BHD w/ Aliens. Damn enjoyable premise, which was also a childhood dream movie of mine. Was a fun movie...for me. But that shit was flawed as hell. And I'll be the first one to say it. And I can't wait for the sequel...which I hope doesn't have the plot we read about here. Just cuz I really like something..doesn't mean I'm blind to it's flaws. I make that very obvious around here. Just cuz they're changing up the source material DOESN'T mean it's a film disappointment. You've yet to see footage, unless you never told us (you never know). All this info we're getting is that. Information and pics about the film. BUT we've yet to see what they've constructed in post. Granted...I'm somewhat perplexed as to how they're going to do it w/ the PG-13. THAT's the weirdest part so far. MAYBE you're a big fan for the book and demand what you want for the movie. That's irrelevant. You're not making it. They are. To me...this is just a movie I knew close to nothing about besides being a book w/ zombies in it but I am interested by concept, actors, news, etc. I can't say anything about the quality of the film...cuz...I don't have at the very least a trailer to see this visual product. YES, trailers can...."lie" but they give you one thing at least...what it looks like in the frame. . Cry all you want about those involved or what they're doing, that's fine. BUT the finished film is a single object that has yet to officially exist. You can assume it will suck based off what facts are known. We don't know what the world of WWZ is like yet. Don't just condemn a movie without having seen it. Unless it's some established series, franchise or string of films..that's where your opinion is most likely right. Not here though. Again...we don't know what WWZ's world is like yet. We can only assume from what we know of it's production. |

Liar? As a little experiment I went into the threads of any movies on the first two pages that has (or will) have action in it. I was certain that you'd have posted at least once in these threads, showing your interest in any movie with action scenes (this includes any sort of hand to hand fighting, gunplay, swordplay, chase scenes, etc). The results: Black Dynamite? Yes. Coriolanus? Yes. Dark Knight Rises? Yes. Superman: Man of Steel? Yes. Sin City 2? Yes. G.I. Joe 2? Yes. Inception? Yes. Rise of the Planet of the Apes? Yes. Elysium? Yes. I Saw The Devil? Yes. The Darkest Hour? Yes. The Last Circus? Yes.
Twixt? Yes. Conan remake? Yes. Captain America? Yes. The Guard? Yes. Spiderman? Yes. The American? Yes. Tower Heist? Yes.....I'm certain the trend would continue if I looked on the next few pages. You're that guy everyone knows who's stoked about everything. Now, onto the topic at hand...based on your posts, I'm going to safely assume that you have not read the book. A bit of research would show you that fans of the book are upset at the choices the production company has made. They had an awesome script by Michael Straczynski (that I have read) that did the book justice. I was really excited. Then Brad Pitt's company Plan B won the filming rights and it's all gone down hill from there. They've changed the script to the point where it's not Straczynski's anymore, but this Matthew Carnahan. His credits? State of Play, The Kingdom, Lions For Lambs. Sigh. Then they hired a "bleh" director in Marc Forster. QoS was terrible, most of all the action scenes...Action is key in zombie films! The absolute biggest blow was when they decided to neuter the film and go PG-13. I just can't fathom how they didn't think there would be a blacklash against this. Changing Pitt's character to a hero figure is so irritating (and I like Pitt). I won't be the least bit surprised if the trailer is exciting, but I will be surprised if I walk out of the theater not being disappointed. |

on the subject at hand: A film is a film. It has to be good or bad on it's own merits. You can't criticize the finished product...cuz it doesn't exist yet. Everyone's welcome to criticize the production of it though, the facts are there...cuz even I didn't think it was going to happen or hell...that it started filming when I posted pics. It has had a damn interesting production for sure. |

Halfway through the novel....man what an amazing and intense read. I am super-excited for this film. If the movie follows the book, these should be close to Romero-esque Zombies in that they are brittle, weak, and slow moving. Sprinters seem to be more suited to horror movies while (from what I've heard) this more of a dramatic/horror/multinational political thriller.
For those who haven't read the book, its awesome. |

The book was good, not great. Some of the stories were fantastic and would be best served as a series on FX or a premium cable channel... def not a movie.

This sort of reminds me of the original incarnation of the Uncharted movie. IE a studio takes buys a property with a name that people recognize, then designs a product that really has nothing to do with the actual original property. Just write a zombie movie and call it something else. Don't call it "World War Z" if it's not actually based on the fucking book called World War Z. Another stupid idea from the studios.

Well, this certainly makes me more hopeful:
World War Z might end up being a trilogy When it was first announced that Paramount planned to adapt Max Brooks’ World War Z, many fans wondered how director Marc Foster could possibly hope to do justice to its decade-spanning narrative and all its many interlinked vignettes with just a single feature film. Then it was revealed that they pretty much planned to ditch the book’s “aftermath” conceit and refocus on the more crowd-pleasing narrative of Brad Pitt fighting zombies— a strategy that promised more dramatic tension, perhaps, but less resemblance to the World War Z readers recognize, which caused varying degrees of rage. But the L.A. Times digs up some potential good news in this Pitt interview, which casually mentions that World War Z is being eyed as a trilogy, one that could finally get around to looking more like its source material by the time it’s all over, and satisfy that demand for philosophical postmortems colored with hopelessness and despair. Of course, it’s also said to have “the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, [the] Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's The Walking Dead.” But more importantly, the hopelessness. Gotta have the hopelessness. |
