re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

The last time we heard anything about "The Dark Knight Rises" casting, Christopher Nolan was reportedly taking meetings with a slew of actresses in their late 20s and early 30s for the female lead in his next Batman movie.

Today we have word that the list has been narrowed down to six lucky ladies, and that Nolan is looking to cast two female leads — not just one, as was previously thought. The short list of actresses allegedly in contention are Rachel Weisz (pictured), Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.

According to Deadline, Nolan is looking for an actress to play a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and another to portray a villain.

^ I don't know exactly what roles he is looking to fill, but out of that short list I like Weisz and Portman.

Weisz has been thrown around on fan boards for years as favorite for Catwoman. Of course, that means nothing to Nolan. The fact that one may be a villian suggests Catwoman or Talia.

I hope they don't cast Hathaway or Knightley.

The love interest has been the weakest aspect of the last two films.

From that list, I'd be ok with Weisz, Watts or Portman. Def don't want to see the other three anywhere near this movie.

Weisz and Watts would totally fit! Blake Lively would be a good surprise though (she's good! Watch The Town). Portman just won't fit. And Hathaway and Knightly should back the hell up! The only role that I would consider for Hathaway is Harlequin, because I would love to see Hathaway play a crazy evil bitch villain. I just don't buy her as a leading likable lady.

I don't mind Batman having another love interest... I mean, he's fucking Batman... he should/could have hot chicks swinging from his Batdick 24/7.

The only love interest Batman should ever have in the movies is Catwoman.

Agreed I been watching Batman the Animated series and the relationship between Batman and Catwoman is pretty damn engaging. Simply because she is his counterpart, she is a burglar but she also has moral values and a code of not killing. So Batman identifies with her but with the other hand she is breaking the rules so he is forced to catch her but then again isn't he breaking the rules himself by being a vigilante.

I dunno. Had they not killed off Rachel (or even bothered making her up in the first place), Silver St. Cloud could have been a great trajic love interest for Bruce.

Surprised to see Blake Lively in there since she's already co-starring in another DC adaptation, Green Lantern (which, if successful, would become a villain if I understand the GL mythos).

....yeah...but she was underwritten and worthless in BB. Not to mention Holmes as an assistant D.A. is totally ridiculous. She couldn't pull it off as convincing as I'd think someone in her job would deal with things. Maggie G. was a lot more convincing and her character was actually of worth, though small as it was it was still weakly written. I did think it was badass with what they did to her. Didn't expect that but it made sense since she wasn't a character from the comic (at least if I remember correctly, anyone 100% confirm that for me?).

Catwoman is a great gender counter opposite to Bats.

I agree. And, as I recall, Rachel was never in the comics. They just made her up and gave her Gilda's fate. She was poorly written in both films so I don't toally fault Holmes. She was actually quite good in the scene after Joe Chill is murdered. Sadly, she was mostly bland in the rest of the movie. The rest of the cast just made her blandness all the worse.

Maggie G. was a clear improvement but the character was still very poorly written. The "romance" between her and Bruce seemed very tacked on and the character had very little depth. They should have used Silver St. Cloud and had Bruce grow to love her over the course of the last two movies and tragically kill her off in the third, just as she and Bruce had begun a courtship.

re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Ever since the news broke that Tom Hardy had been cast in The Dark Knight Rises people have wondered what role he would play. Fans across the internet have come up with a lot of ideas, from a Gotham cop, to the main villain. The following information is a rumor, and should be treated as such.

I’ve heard that Tom Hardy is in fact going to play the villain. My source strongly believes that Hardy is going to be playing Hugo Strange. This is the first bit of information from this person that I’m publishing, however they have been accurate in the past. For example, this person told me weeks before the recent Christoper Nolan interview that The Riddler would not be appearing in the film. They also mentioned that Rachel Weisz and Anne Hathaway were in the running for the lead female role a couple of weeks before Deadline posted their list. Given their track record so far, I wanted to post this Hardy news that I received via email. Again, this should just be taken as rumor. I’m posting this for the sake of discussion since we’ve hit a dry spell with The Dark Knight Rises news. What do you guys think? Would you like to see Hugo Strange as the villain?

re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Hugo Strange had a bald misshapen head, complete with bushy eyebrows, coke-bottle glasses and a thick beard accenting his jaw. He is an insane psychologist and chemical genius who knows Batman's secret identity and lusts to take the identity for himself. Just as The Batman was familiar with him, Strange knew of his adversary long before they met. Cursing an underling for not killing him when he had the chance, Strange declared that "The Batman is the only man with the imagination to sense the exact nature of our plans." Strange had first gained fame in the world of psychology when he claimed to have fully analyzed the Dark Knight from afar. Strange would lend credence to his own claims by learning of Batman's true identity of Bruce Wayne. However, his hatred of Batman turned into more and more of a deranged obsession, using his medical expertise to hatch a series of bizarre plots based around genetics and mind control in order to defeat Batman and possibly take his place.

Reading the description, Strange sure doesn't sound very interesting.

Sounds much better than going with one of the old shopworn stand-by's, Catwoman, Penguin and Riddler. A nice fresh direction with a character we haven't seen on the big screen before.

I trust Nolan to get it right.

Agreed.

While I wouldn't mind seeing Penguin or Riddler again, I really don't have any interest in another Catwoman. But I'd much rather see a Hugo Strange or other, less mainstream (at least for the casual fan) villain.

I think Strange sounds infinitely more interesting than another familiar face from the Rogues Gallery. And I trust Nolan to make sure he's done right.

I'm all for something different, and the theme of Strange trying to find out Batman's identity goes with the police chasing Batman down after TDK.

I can accept Hugo, but once again wish Silver was in it too, since they shared a storyline.

I've read a bunch of Batman comics and I still have never heard of this guy. But I welcome it, Nolan knows what he's doing.
