I've had this book for a while now and never got around to reading it. I'll have to remedy that so I can compare it to the film. Great cast/crew involved here and the pics look great. I'll definitely be checking this one out.

Looks like this may be pushed back until next year. Not surprising since they dont even have a trailer for this one yet. :

I find it hard to believe that the fella who was at the helm of 'The Proposition' failed on "every creative level".

Hell there are plenty of reviews for 'There Will Be Blood' that describe it as boring and stupid and whatnot by 'viewers'.

'Viewers' are often dumb asses who just had a subtle masterpiece zoom right over their rather pin shaped heads.

I'm wondering if they were expecting some sort of I Am Legend/Doomsday type movie. The article said they hadn't read the book beforehand so going into a postapocalyptic movie expecting to see action and instead getting a father/son character study may catch some people by surprise.

Did you seriously quote all of the photos which appeared in the post immediately above yours?! That's all sorts of unnecessary.

I've seen the version of the film they previewed in NYC and the review from CHUD is just wrong. Some scenes could still use some work but anyone who has read the book would know that the film is being very true to the overall feeling of the book. This idiot thought he was getting something totally different. I also want to clear up that the music in that cut was all original Nick Cave/Warren Ellis material. Some of it was still rough ideas, but it was not temp score like others have stated.

I really wish this wasn't delayed. This is one of the most powerful books I've ever read and it turned me on to the other works of McCarthy. I was really hoping to see it but I am not surprised given that no trailer has even surfaced. Hopefully it will make it in early '09 and not be pushed back further. There could be no better time than the heart of winter. This as a summer release just won't do.

Re: 'The Road' - Nov. 2008

Viggo is saying they are delaying the film for the right reasons, for once.

To release the best possible film.

"My understanding is that they know that they've got a story that a lot of people want to see, because of the book. [...] And, the people that read the book, which are many, were very moved by it and by this relationship between this boy and this man, in particular, in that setting. And, I think that they are really aware of the fact that they've got one chance to do it, and if there's any little things that they still want to work on a little more, to get it just right, whether it's the music -- I don't know what it is -- a variety of things, they want to do it right. And, if you rush it out before you feel in good conscience it's there ... So, I am disappointed. I wanted to see it. I want to see how it is." - Viggo Mortensen

Trailer

Fuck me, this trailer is deceptive. For people now worried about the tone of the movie being wildly out of sync with the book, don't be. The movie nails the darkness, the sadness, the fear and the hopefulness of the book. I can understand why Dimension decided on this trailer, but people are going to be pissed when they go in expecting another I Am Legend type apocalypse movie. Fuck this trailer.

Worse than that, they cut it to make it appear that she is traveling with the man and the boy and not appearing only in flashbacks. I'm hoping this is just a trailer to create interest, which will be followed by trailers that are truer to the actually mood of the movie. Otherwise I predict a lot of pissed off moviegoers.

If you haven't read the book, I predict you are going to be one of these pissed off folks who went in expecting an action movie and got something much different. This trailer is wholly unrepresentative of the movie.

Agreed. The trailer seems to have all of Theron's scenes as well as most of the action. The Road is as far from Mad Max as you can get, and most of the book is spent dealing with the day-to-day realities of feeding yourself when every canned good in the world has been looted and hoarded.

It sounds like you've seen the movie FinkPish?

Loved the book, so I can't wait to see the movie. It's good to hear it apparently lives up to the brilliance of the novel!

Re: 'The Road' - Nov. 2008

It still has the right look to it, considering the pictures with the "action movie" trailer stuff.

I have my hopes up for something really cool.
