Don't you see the irony and failed logic in what you're saying? It's set inside a computer and set far away from reality.

I'm a little confused. Is Jeff Bridges supposed to be the villain this time around?

I like seeing this in high quality, but I also really enjoy watching the 2008 Comic Con bootleg version so I can hear the audience reaction.

I know we physically see Bridges in the trailer but..is that also Bridges in that that green highlighted suit?

I thought I read somewhere that the clip isn't so much an indication of plot, but just to show what it will look like. I could be wrong though.

That's what it looks like to me. I see a bearded Bridges in some building and a clean shaven Bridges in the suit.

I can see the validity in both arguments. The effects, although light years ahead of the crude CGI of the original, are very unconvincing and cheap looking. On the other hand, it's a virtual reality game world that's not trying to emulate reality in the slightest.

No I don't.

When aspects of the original made 28 (?) years ago looks better than this new "concept" trailer. There's a problem.

Ok. I really barely remember tron but..so.....the characters I saw in Tron aren't real people. They're virtual people....and now in this one. Virtual characters are..virtual. And you have issues with it?

I kind of know what you mean, and it may end up working against the new film to a degree. The look of the original was intentionally surrealistic, to differentiate between the real world and the computer world, especially as it would appear to Flynn once he was transported into it. It wasn't supposed to look like the graphics of a game as we (human players) would see it on a monitor.

The new effects look very cool, and I am more than willing to suspend judgment until we see the finished product (which I will ABSOLUTELY see in 3D on opening night), but they tend to look more like a simulation of the real world, rather than the way the digital world would "look" from inside the computer.

However, with all that said, there is one test I always use to gauge how well a trailer (or in this case, concept footage clip) conveys the intended meaning. I play them for my wife without giving her any clue as to what she is about to see. Just sit her down at the computer and play the video. When I played the HD copy of this trailer for her today, it only took her about 10 seconds into the actual footage (just before the first player appeared) to say "Ooooo! Is this Tron??" So, on that level, it is a complete success (and definitely got her interested in seeing the film).

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

From the trailer I think they have nailed the way an updated Tron should look and sound. The effects are updated but it still feels like Tron...and so far the little bit of the Daft Punk score sounds like Tron. It is updated but retro...

Haha! Hey guys, I hated the first one so much that I need to go into the sequel thread and let everyone how funny I am! I'm sure everyone will appreciate my unique and interesting take on this subject.

Geez. I didn't know people were so sensitive over crappy movies.

No, but seriously. I have to imagine that TRON 2 will be more entertaining than the original.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Having an unrealistically over-inflated perception of one's comedic genius doesn't make thread-crap jokes "funny". They are still crap. The original Tron film, OTOH, is not.

I disagree. My perception of my comedic genius is nowhere near unrealistic.

And I liked parts of TRON, specifically those of co-star Cindy Morgan.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

As someone who loved the original, I really like the look of the sequel too so far. I hope the rest of the movie is good too. Bruce Boxleitner is back too. This is from Apple:

TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Genre:Action and Adventure, Science Fiction
Director:Joseph Kosinski
Cast:Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett

I'm not familiar with Jeff's co-stars.

Looks like they're updating many of the original's iconic gear and machines.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

They should give the Tron guy a cameo, just in the background or somewhere... did that ever come up during the panel?

I'm familiar with Tron but have never seen the whole thing (honestly I don't think I could sit thru it), but this still looks very interesting to me. Anytime a project like this comes together so many yrs later I think it's pretty cool.

Bruce Boxleitner is too busy making "Trasnmorphers" movies to be involved with Tron.

I like how the light cycles aren't locked into 90 degree turns anymore
shows an evolution of the programming within the tron universe
