I definitely did enjoy Tron: Legacy more so than Inception but the fact that the characters were developed previously in a prior installment allows for an easier task than Inception. |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
I wrote "not really from here though" as a response to the stupid railing charge and wasn't referring to any of my posts in this thread, might be some confusion here.

Most of the actors in Battle Royale never went on to act again in Japan for a reason, and the script is a terrible, pulpy mess.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
Saw it last night. I am a big fan of the original and was really looking forward to this despite the negative reviews.
All in all there was more bad than good. The Good: The soundtrack - Daft Punk did a great job Wylde - She looked fantastic and I think did a great job playing her program Continuity explanations - great job interweaving the two movies "Sets" and effects - even though it was CG, they were well designed and looked great The Bad: 3D was underwhelming - probably one of the worst 3D movies I've seen to utilize the technology and too much 2D scenes Too many Lebowski references The script and plot - meh Young bridges - looked really weird, especially the mouth Renzler - could have been better executed and was very predictable after a certain scene. The first film is much better, but this is still a solid one. I give it a B- (would be less if not for nostalgia) but worth it to see if you are a fan. |

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/ Tatsuya Fujiwara has 31 acting roles listed, most after Battle Royale Aki Maeda has 28 acting roles. Tarô Yamamoto has 48 Chiaki Kuriyama has 39 Sosuke Takaoka has 31 Takashi Tsukamoto has 53 After them, the rest of the actors have significantly less acting roles, although it's impossible to say whether this was because of their acting abilities, or whether other factors came into play. For example, some of these child actor may have left acting completely to finish school. |

That's an opinion, which is something you, slop, and Daytripper need to learn. Furthermore, It's also hilarious, since Battle Royale is just as vacuous as Tron, if not more so,with TERRIBLE acting and a script that not only deviates from the original novel, but dealt terribly with anything that it did adapt. It made such a splash purely on the shock of the topic that it dealt with, and the comic, overexaggerated method in which it did so. But I suppose since you can't understand what they're really saying, you must think the acting and script are brilliant. しょうがないね、外人達が日本語を分からないから、本当のこと知らない。

Someone needs to explain the Internet to you. There's no reason for people like slop101 to keep coming into this thread and taking a huge threadcrap on Tron, but he does it because he must get some sick pleasure out of it. As one user said last night, "Why hang around the Tron Legacy thread if you've made it clear numerous times that you didn't like it? Take your dump and move on to greener pastures... ". Yet the same three or four of you keep coming back over and over again to state the same point over and over again. We got it, you don't like it. You hate the script and the characters. You hate the wholething and think anyone who did like it is an idiot. Why are you still here then? I don't go into threads for movies that I dislike. I don't understand why others do, repeatedly, to make the same points they made in the very first post.
Inside and outside this thread, I've seen you be rude and dismissive to other posters (myself included but hey, who's counting?) when their opinions differed from yours, even if they weren't addressing you directly. Yet, if someone should have the temerity to disagree with you, they get an earful. It's not a terribly good way to carry on a conversation. But there's still time to rectify it. You're not the first person to come to this board with an attitude, and you won't be the last, but the ones that persist in being aggressive and argumentative tend not to stick around too long. |

"Tron doesn't have a single interesting idea in it's retarded head." Is not furthering a discussion. It is bashing a movie for bashing a movie's sake. If you can't understand that then that's on you. I'm sure you'll argue that it does somehow. Save the lecture for someone who cares. I'm done. slop and Daytripper are on my ignore list. I'll ignore your posts as best I can. Bash Tron to your heart's content. |

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
I saw this last week.
The one thing I do have to say was the 3D effects were very underwhelming. I would have much rather saved the extra $3.50 I paid and watched it in 2D. I didn't like that there was a disclaimer at the beginning saying to keep my glasses on even though lots of the movie was in 2D. The Good: The green screen visual effects for The Grid. Olivia Wilde as Quorra. Liked her performance and she looked great in leather. The Euro-trash techno soundtrack The backstory on what happened to Kevin Flynn. CLU...They did a good job making Bridges look 30 years younger. I thought it did have a compelling ending. The Bad: The 3D effects Jeff Bridges dialogue as Kevin Flynn. I know he was stuck in the grid for over 20+ years, but him saying "Dude" and "Radical" over and over got a little annoying. Wasn't really impressed with Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn. I think they could have cast a stronger younger actor. There is actually food in a virtual world? :D I would probably give this a B |

It must be the equivalent of power, like the blue water that they drank in the first Tron. Speaking of which, I loved that that's what Kevin was drinking during the dinner scene. I loved all the little callbacks to the old Tron (which I rewatched in HD before seeing the movie for a second time). |

I'm on your ignore-list, which is fine, but just in case, I'd would like to know exactly what interesting ideas you think Tron does have. Otherwise, you're the one thread-crapping, barking into the wind, contributing nothing but arbitrary opinion with no valid reasons.
For me, the first time was kinda of like meh. Surprisingly it won me over with a repeat viewing. There is a ton of stuff about Flynn at the beginning that can be connected with CLU later in the film that I totally missed because I was too busy looking at the eye candy. The whole idea that Flynn made a carbon copy of himself in the Grid...but forgot that his imperfections would go along with it...and his imperfections (trying to create a "perfect" world) went out of control is a friggen great idea. The reason why CLU saw the ISO's as imperfect is because they weren't part of any program and could think for themselves. In other words, they were more human than CLU and human's are imperfect. You see Flynn giving his god-complex speech in the video footage at the beginning..and then you see it mirrored in the speech CLU gives later and you realize that it IS almost like Kevin Flynn and his obsession with creating his perfect world. Sure, Kevin spews out a lot of eye-rolling dialog...but jeeze, give the guy a break...hes been living in this system for 20 years! That and his god complex drove him a little nuts and that is why he acts like that. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't explore all these ideas enough. I understand that when The Matrix tried to explain every little thing, it got really stupid. I just feel Tron could have gone a little deeper into fleshing out it's ideas (especially about the ISO's) a little further without getting too heavy handed. I also would have liked to have seen more tie-in to the first movie. I'm assuming after Kevin got back, he spent years trying to get back in and that's what happened. It's never really said for sure whether he remembered his first time in the ENCOM system or whether it was a subconscious memory that led him into trying to get back in. Overall though, I think it was a successful film...especially after a second viewing. ...And you know, thats just my opinion.. :) |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
Regarding the pig and other food. I think it was a subtle touch, but Flynn is trying to live a more "analog" life. He has books, actual bound books, and art and food. I don't know if he somehow brought those items into the world or they were synthesised, but the idea is that he has been stuck in this digital world so long that he's trying to connect with "real" things.
When Clu and the other villians search his house they are fascinated and frustrated by the things that Flynn had there. I thought it was a nice touch. Something that is not understood and/or ignored by the few lurking critics on here. |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
Saw it in IMAX 3D. Loved it. Sure, the story could have been stronger, but the visuals were always impressive and the score is phenomenal. I'll be seeing it this way again before it leaves theaters.

They way I look at movies like this is that some are not meant to be Oscar winners. They just won't. Tron is in this category for me. For anyone expecting something like the Godfather is going in with too high of expectations. This is a popcorn flick and generally these movies are going to be simpler on story, dialogue, etc. These types of movies aren't going to have the best dialogue or story, but are they fun to watch? That's my only concern when I go to a movie and I can say that for Tron I had fun. |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
People complaining about the whole movie not being in 3D baffle me. It's like the Wizard of Oz. The real world is 2D and the grid is 3D. That's cool. Not a mistake.
Now the variety of aspect ratios and resolutions in the IMAX presentation...that's a mistake. |

I still don't give a rats ass about the characters, save for Quorra, who is endearing mainly cause she's hot (I'm not crediting the writing really). BUt the story...I agree, there are some neat ideas that are the basis for the stories, but the film doesn't really go into them, or explain them that well. You can certainly take them and think deeper about what they were thinking, but it was so light in this film I certainly think more could've been done with it. Granted, that wouldn't necessarily help the film's mainstrema appeal, but there are interesting ideas driving the story. Nonetheless, I see the flaws, but I really dig the movie regardless. |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
My dad and I enjoyed this in 3D quite a bit.
I would like to have heard Daft Punk's soundtrack in a properly calibrated theater. ***1/2 out of five. Olivia Wylde was great. |
Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
I also enjoyed it more on a second viewing.
$131 million domestically so far, not too bad, probably $300 million worldwide by the end of January. |
